Duzell glanced around the clearing cautiously as he spread out his picnic blanket. It had taken far to long for him to recover it after the Echee had stolen it last time he had visited the forest. But Nysath had assured him the the Echee were out of their mating season, so they should be safe. It was a beautiful day. The gentle breeze and shady trees negated the worst of the heat from the bright sun. Duzell slowly unpacked his picnic basket and spread out the food he had brought. He hoped Orryx had told all the others to join them and that the others would be willing to risk a picnic in the forest again. If not though, it would not be a total loss; Duzell was in desperate need of a day off from setting up the inn and as he sat in the shade listening to the nearby stream he knew this was the perfect way to spend it.
Duzell saw a brief movement out of the corner of his eye. "Not again." He muttered as he turned to see an Echee sneaking around the fruit salad. "You stay away from that!" he bellowed at the lone Echee. Fortunately it was not a wild invader; it appeared that one of his own Echee had stowed away in the picnic basket. Treasure groomed her long red fur and stared up innocently at Duzell as if she had not been about to steal his food. Duzell shook his head and picked up the wayward Echee. "No guilt from you, huh? Do you know who embarrassed I would be if you little twits ruined my second picnic?” Treasure just squeaked at him and gently nibbled on his finger. Duzell snagged a grape out of the salad and handed it to the Echee. “Just stay out of trouble will you?”

Kapelle was making foreign musical sounds, something like the bubbling, whirring sound of water running through a narrow pipe as Leyora packed a basket full of treats. She had a large salad with grilled saydar meat and boiled eggs along with another that was all veggies, just in case anyone brought pets or bondeds with them. In a separate bag, she packed a large batch of oatmeal cookies. As always, Cyrus was happy to take Leyora where ever she needed to be. Eyrdith was happy to have the break from playing taxi all the time as well. Once she wasReady, Leyora, Cyrus and Kapelle set off for the grove.
Upon arriving she greeted Duzell with a happy wave. "You are sure it is going to be safe this time? As much as I like our friend, Cain, I don't fancy trying to put him back together again anytime soon." She grinned to show that she meant no harn from her jest. The last pinic was far from dull, but also very tiring chasing after all those echee. She eyed Duzell's echee warily and then shrugged. As long as it behaved, she would too. She had given Chubs and the rest of her echeee an ample snack to tide them over specifically so that they would not make invasive maneuvers around the picnic, this time. She had not realized that Duzell's echee was a stowaway, yet.
"I hope I didn't bring too much stuff. It seems I've not quite mastered cooking for small gatherings. Working in the kitchens back home we were generally cooking enough to feed armies." The problem with that statement is that she was being quite literal. Still, if everyone brought pets or bondeds as they usually did, there wasn't likely to be left overs, anyway. Feeding everyone and their animals was not too far off from feeding a small army, at least.

Taki had heard stories about the incident with the last picnic, so she was glad that everyone had decided to give it a second go. This time, she would be in attendance too! She was also excited, as this would be Beleth, her brown dragonling's, first real time in public. She'd been present when Taki and Cain had spoken at the take previously, but otherwise had stayed out of sight. To try and help with her adjusting to all the people, and to try and curtail her usual protectiveness when it came to her bonded, Tam'kar and Honor were coming along, the kurbok doing his bonded the kindness of carrying a harness holding her offering for the gathering.
As if you could keep me away! Tam'kar cheerfuly chittered as he bounded around the walking trio of dragon, kurbok, and Myrgwae. A picnic sounds so fun! With friends, and food, and maybe games, only if there's no games I'll just start some -
Just try to be polite, Honor put in with a soft sigh. Not everyone is as exhuberant as you are. The kitsune continued bounding around, undaunted. Taki giggled, then patted Honor's neck.
Taki Mine, Beleth spoke up, are you sure this will be safe? How well do you know who will be in attendance? And are you certain you can trust their Bondeds to behave? Or their pets for that matter! She warily eyed the Undassa curled up like colorful adornments on Taki's hat. One of the things had gotten startled when it had settled on the dragon for a nap, and said dragon had moved. Fortunately, the fangs had been too weak to penetrate the scaly brown hide but it had still made her uneasy around the little serpents.
*I'm certain, Beleth. These are my friends. You'll see. Everything will be fine. You didn't know if you could trust Cain when he joined us at the lake, right? But he's alright, isn't he?*
Yes, because he made you laugh when you needed it. The dragon nuzzled her bonded, dislodging three Echee from Taki's bag and finding them crowding on her back for a ride, which she tolerated with stoic patience; in other words, she pointedly ignored them. Again, Taki giggled, then pointed to where the gathering was to take place.
*Ah, there it is! I hope they all like the crystalized-honeyed berries I made.* She'd spent quite some time trying different wild-grown berries, with Honor and Tam'kar helping her pick out the good ones from the inedible, then added a little honey and baked them into a sweet crunchy treat. Pausing a moment, she addressed her echee. *Alright, Nutmeg, Ginger, Clove, you behave, and I'll let you have the rest of the berries I didn't bring.* She's found that a little bribery, especially of sweets, did well to keep them in line. So assured (well, hoping) that they would obey, she and her Bondeds entered the picnic area.
*Hi, Duzell, Leyora! I hope no one minds if I brought some friends with me.*

Duzell nodded in greeting to Leyora and Taki. “Thanks, both of you for braving the forests for another picnic. I have way too much food for Treasure and me.” He gestured to the picnic blanket. “You guys can set that down over here. There’s plenty of room. I wouldn’t worry too much about having too much food. I told Orryx to invite everyone he could find. So, if he didn’t get distracted he should have spread the word by now.” He gestured to the Echee quietly munching on a grape next to his foot. “If we do have too much we all have plenty of furry critters that would love to get their hands on any leftovers.” He did not figure that any of the food would be junked. No, the Echee would see to that. Duzell was vaguely surprised that Leyora’s Echee Chubs was not in attendance. He would have loved another chance at a picnic. Maybe Leyora did not want to have to clean any more gunk off him. Duzell shook his head. He and the other inn Echee had certainly made a mess of the kitchen; completely covering it in flour and sugar and gods know what else. He only hoped that while the owners were away the Echee would not be playing in their inn.

*Since I missed the first one, there’s not a chance I would have missed this one! Although I heard that it went a tiny bit unplanned.* She couldn’t help but giggle at the memory of the stories she’d heard, mostly in passing, about the antics of the echee. *My echee trio are under strict orders to behave, and Tam’kar is going to help me keep an eye on them, so hopefully they’ll not get into trouble. Well, too much trouble.* Case in point, Tam’kar deftly snatched up Nutmeg from where he was ‘investigating’ one of the bowls on the picnic blanket a little too closely. The little creature squeaked at the fox, but otherwise sat sullenly when he was set down with his nest-mates next to Beleth’s side.
Beleth was decidedly liking this idea less and less. Although the warmth of the sun was the perfect temperature for her to consider stretching out somewhere and basking in it, and Taki’s mood clearly excited and eager for this gathering, everything in the dragon was on high alert. She could scent the other dragons on Duzell and Leyora – they were riders! Her whirling eyes glanced about; where were said dragons? Were they sheltering at the Nexus? Or were they somewhere nearby, watching? The scents of a myriad of other creatures mingled around them as well, some familiar at least by species, some not so much. Were any of them aggressive? Should she worry about that?
All of the brown dragonling’s thoughts weren’t lost on her little rider. Taki bit back a sigh; she certainly hoped this would help break Beleth of this distrust of everyone not part of their little family.
*I’m sorry,* she murmured privately to Duzell and Leyora. *Beleth is very protective of me, since I’m so small compared with everyone around here even though she’s barely more than a couple of weeks old. I hope she didn’t offend you.* Certainly, the brown’s attitude, and the hues that lit her eyes (alternating between lavender and purple, with even flicks of pale and brighter yellow occasionally), couldn’t be easy to miss. *Maybe… you might know of a way to help us with that? I’ve never had contact with a dragon before, not like this, so I’m kinda at a loss. It’s not that she doesn’t believe me when I tell her it’s alright. It’s like she can’t help it.* For the innocently trusting Myrgwae, such suspicion was as foreign as snow in a volcano.
Although he was fully aware of Taki’s thoughts, Tam’kar was letting none of this distract him from his enjoyment of the day. Everything was going to be perfect! He bounced around Leyora and Duzell, then looked up and around Duzell for Oryxx. He hadn’t really had a chance to play with one of his first friends since he got his fourth tail and first two orbs, and was eager to see just how well the little aerial squid could keep away from him this time! His head cocked and ears flickered when he heard Oryxx was getting everyone, then promptly turned and faced the most likely direction for said return and sat, watching.
(word count: 526/500, shelter, temperature, antics. And on a side note, can other people hear someone’s bonded’s words? I know in Pern only a rider – and a few special others – could hear a dragon talking, but I wanted to be sure how it was here.)

Post by Terris on Aug 1, 2014 18:25:49 GMT -8
Terris may have been a little late to the picnic, but he doubted anyone would mind all that much. He had good reason to be late, it took time to roast a faalbok to perfection, and that is exactly what he had done. The knight, atop his younger dragon, Inoath, cast his eyes downward, to the people who had already gathered as the dragon spiralled gracefully down and landed far enough away from the event that the downward draft of her wings would not upend anything and spoil the day.
The knight's belly rumbled as he unfastened the roasted beast, the scent of hot, well cooked meat wafting up and assailing him. Relieved of her burden, Inoath folded her wings daintily, then, much less graceful on land than in the air, the she-dragon waddled over to a large sunny spot to bask, ignoring the gathered humanoids for the most part. It was not that she was antisocial, she loved people, especially Terris, but lately she had been somewhat less agreeable, and thought maybe what she needed was a nice long sunbathe.
After depositing the faalbok on the ground with the other food, Terris unwrapped it, and, realising he had not brought anything to portion it out with, fumbled in his pack for one of his smaller daggers. This he stuck deftly into the flank of the beast (but not before cutting himself a slice, to test the sharpness of the dagger, of course). Pleased with himself, and with the worst of his hunger at bay now, he looked about to see who had arrived before him, and who was yet to show up.
It seemed he was not too late, after all, only Leyora and Taki had answered Duzell's summons so far. He waved at the two women, then nodded at Duzell.
"No echee this time, I hope." he said, his tone friendly and amused. "Took me an hour to untangle that little pest, Romeo from my hair when he landed on my head. Not that I mind echee, they are great little pets, just steal anything that's not tied down" he laughed.
Akanth was all set to stay home and bask in the sun on his favorite ledge of The Nexus, and he was doing just that when he realised there was something not quite right going on. He knew Terris and Inoath were going to some picnic, that was fine, all well and good, but there was some small, niggling thing in the pit of his stomach that would just not let him rest, and, though he tried hard to ignore it, he just could not put it out of his mind.
It dawned on him then, after his seventh attempt to find a comfortable position on the flat, smooth ledge. Inoath...she'd be around other dragons, possibly male dragons. Male dragons that might take a fancy to her, and that would just not do.
The large brown beast all but threw himself off the ledge and into the cold of between, arriving in the air above the picnic a few moments later, only to find Inoath half asleep in the sun.
Terris looked up in suprise to see the slowly circling form of Akanth in the sky.
"What in the world....?" he muttered to himself.

Leyora grinned. "Wouldn't miss it for the world. Even without the echee horde, I'm sure there is an exciting time to be had here." She nodded as Duzell mentioned not worrying about too much food as she lifted the blanket from her basket and began setting out one salad and then the next; placing the cookies with the other desserts.
after emptying the basket, she tucked it off to the side of everything, so as to be out of the way. Two things happened in that moment, one was Taki's arrival, to which Leyora answered, "Not a problem at all the more the..." her thoughts were interrupted by Cyrus whose amused voice announced that they were about to have more company, "...merrier?" She shook her head slightly confused and looked in the direction that the bicorn was pointing his horns. Tumbling happily and hungrily through the grass came two feisty kittens. Isis, clouded blue of fur and yellow gems gleaming, was making a beeline for blanket of food, while Rory in all his pink and white splendor was bounding after her trying to catch the tips of Isis's tail.
Leyora listened to Taki, still not quite used to someone not in her bonded network speaking inside her mind, and scooped Isis up before she could plow through the middle of the food. Rory was content to continue picking on the fellow feline, though, putting on a great show of pretending not to notice all the food that was there and that more was on its way, as Terris made his arrival. Curious,Leyora tried thinking her answer to Taki first, before translating out loud, "I'm not I could be of any help there. Eyrdith is an older dragon and my first as well. She has always been pretty motherly to me. I'm sure yours will... well not grow out of the protective stage so much as grow into it though. As she learns more about her environment and those around she'll come into her own, just like any other child." Leyora offered a warm smile, hoping that her words helped bring a little bit of serenity or peace of mind, at least. She absently reached out to pet the fox-like spirit bond, not even thinking about the fact that her hand might or might not pass through. Certainly the kittens were intrigued enough to make a couple of playful swipes at the creature.
Leyora waved to Terris as her arms and lap became free again and Kapelle produced a a sound similar to that of trumpeted fanfare before a royal feast as his greeting. Leyora shook her head and did her best to ignore the silly beast, for now, anyway. "Well, Chubs and his friends are locked away in the breeding cages at home, this time at least. You'd never believe how hard it is to clean a rodent that is bent on deep frying himself!" As the roast was laid down with the rest of the food, Rory, who was still pretending not to notice, starting peeking and sniffing in the direction of the succulent meat when he thought no one was looking. Isis on the other hand, had no such shame as she marched right up to the dish, sat down and gave a plaintive "Mrrreow!" insisting that she be given her piece now. Leyora scooped the petulant kitten up and laughed. "Sorry about that. She really is a bossy little thing!"

Leyora’s words put much of Taki’s mind at ease, calming the parade of worry that somehow she might be failing her dragon as a rider. As she assisted with setting up the blanket, she took a moment to wave to Terris, then deftly plucked off her hat and brought it down on one of her trio of echee, trapping Ginger inside before the female could get the bright idea of trying to sneak up to his offered roasted faalbok and take a sample as well, to make doubly certain it was done, naturally.
*Now cut that out!* she scolded laughingly, picking up one of her honey-crusted berries and shoving it under the hat to keep the echee occupied. *And for the two of you too, so you don’t get any funny ideas either.* She handed a pair to her males, who contentedly started munching them. Once she heard similar sounds from under her hat, she returned it to her head where it belonged. *And I thought Myrgwae were mischevious!* she laughed. *Echee have us beat, hands down!*
Tam’kar playfully leaned into Leyora’s petting hand, enjoying the extra attention and letting his quad-tails flicker along her arm in thanks. He knew that he was something a little different from the other Spirit Animals he’d met thus far, as he was already solid and in fact had been pretty much from the first second he’d had contact with Taki. But his age showed a little differently, as his having added a tail and two of his future nine ruby orbs attested. Despite this advancement, nothing stopped him from behaving very much like the kit he recently was, and as the pair of kittens took a swipe at him, he rolled like they’d bowled him clean over, chittering at them, then bounced up and flickered his tails at them invitingly. At least until he saw Orryx, he most certainly wouldn’t be bored!
Beleth watched the riders and her Taki chatting. She faintly noted what was said about her, and sighed, knowing that it did bother Taki a bit that she was so protective. But things could be so –dangerous!- If the Myrgwae wasn’t careful, someone just had to be careful for her! Though, despite her worry, she couldn’t help but stare at Inoath in awe. She’d seen older dragons from afar, but this – this was inspiring, and more than a little intimidating. Here she couldn’t even fly yet, and right in front of her was a dragon who probably had already been between more than once! She was just debating approaching, to try and strike up a conversation, when the dragonling sensed the burst of another dragon slipping out of between, and looked up to see Akanth wheeling in the sky. Instantly she retreated to her place beside Taki, nearly bumping into her rider (and anyone close by) in the process. A riderless dragon, a male, just appearing out of the blue? This couldn’t be good, no it just couldn’t! She would stay right here and protect her Taki and her fellow bondeds, and that was that!

Cain was not happy. Cain was not happy in the least. In fact, he could name several things he would rather be doing than flying to a picnic place that already held bad memories for him. Dorth on the other hand was happy as a nynt let loose into the Library of Alexandria and given unlimited time to spend reading all the scrolls it housed. She had just spent the last half hour cleaning Cain and scrubbing down his bones so that they were all glossy and shiny now. No way was she going to drop by this picnic with a dirty bonded. Not that Cain ever really cared about how dirty he was. He was made of bone after all and not flesh so dirt did not stick quite the same way. Hard to stink when you don't have sweat glands after all. Never seem to make much of a difference with Dorth though. If she spotted a fleck of dirt in more than one place, into the river went Cain.
The party looked to be in full swing as Dorth landed down at the edge, releasing Cain and the dish of veggies she had brouht for food from her claws. Cain sat firmly on the ground once released and just barely resisted kissing it. That would have been a vision for the others to catch a sight of and the skeleton decided not to give them that. Just cause they were friends did not mean they had to know just how much he really and truly hated flying. Not to mention he did not want to be here. Last time he was here, he had to put himself back together. The skeleton really was not looking for repeat of that experience.
Though, looking about now that he was not up in the air, he did not see any of the echee wondering around looking for make matching twin nests with his hand bones so that was a point in this shindig's favor. Sadly, it got points deducted cause he had to have another bath before coming here. Really. He did not need to be clean that much.
At Dorth's urging, Cain stood slowly and walked towards the group, the bowl of leaf greens in his hands. Staying on the edge of the party so if no one saw him, he could always say he tried to enter into the party and then make a break for it. Cain would give it five minutes. Five minutes and no more. Surely no one would spot him at the edge of the shadows holding this bowl...Though Dorth would be hard to miss as she laid herself out on the sunny patches to soak up the warmth. Maybe they would not connect the dots? Though that was a pretty big maybe. After all, it was probably hard to miss a shiny skeleton or a huge dragon. Especially when said dragon was known for bringing her bonded along with her when she went to gatherings with other riders.
Cain decided he would not catch a break anytime soon, but that did not stop him from trying.

Taki smiled, spotting Cain from where he was lurking, or hiding, whichever, and it didn’t take much empathy to sense that he was trying to go unnoticed. So she took a little advantage of this, catching his ‘eye’ with hers while Terris was otherwise occupied, flicking her ears and her shoulders shaking in a silent giggle as she discreetly tipped her hat up so he could see Soothe, her smooth mint Osidae within and darting a glance from the skeleton (specifically his osidae-bit arm) to Terris and back, referencing a shared joke. Then she put on her typical happy expression, content to let Cain remain anonymous as long as he was able. Somehow, she didn’t think he would be lonely long though!
A small frown found the Myrgwae’s face, however, as Beleth bumped into her. She saw the whirling yellow hues and had to blink. If anything, it had seemed like the brown dragonling was calming down. Now she was agitated again. What could have bothered her in this heavenly setting? Then, Taki noticed Terris was looking skyward, and did the same.
*Oh!* she murmured softly. *Another dragon.* She hadn’t been here long enough to know most of the other rider’s dragons by name, or on sight, yet. {Oh, I see! First one dragon, and now two more in short succession! And they all look full grown. No wonder Beleth’s uneasy again. I will admit, I’d be less than a snack for one. Good thing I don’t think they like Myrgwae for a meal.} She reached out to stroke a hand over the dragon’s back, rubbing behind the closer wing joint like she knew the brown liked.
Taki Mine…. Beleth clearly knew her rider was trying to distract her, and would have none of it as she shook her shoulders. Taki sighed. She hadn’t wanted to do this, but Beleth’s anxiety was going to get the better of her if she didn’t master it first. So she reached out to her dragon and took her own calm, happiness, and the warmth she felt by being around so many of her friends, and Pushed it onto the dragon, just a bit, enough to hopefully calm her. It was said that being Linked with a Myrgwae back on her homeworld allowed them to affect that person with great ease. As Taki found out, it worked just as well on Bondeds. Slowly, the gilded hues in her eyes faded to be replaced by more verdant tones, and her tense muscles relaxed. The Myrgwae figured she’d catch a lecture about this later for certain, but if it helped with Beleth’s anxiety, all the better.
Recovering her previous course of action, the brown dragonling approached the two older, sunning dragons, making sure they were aware of her presence before she politely spoke to them.
Um, hello. My name is Beleth, and my rider is Taki. I was wondering if I might be allowed to observe the picnic with you? Certainly, Beleth had to think that they had picked the best sunning spot! Already her back and folded wings felt the warmth soaking into them wonderfully.

Cain felt someone watching him as he stood in the shadows and looked about to find Taki trying to catch his eye. So to speak. He should have figured she would be the first to notice him, though her actions were not what he was expecting. A low rumble that could have easily been a laugh, came from his mouth as he got the shared joke. Oh goodness! The trouble he could cause here at the moment with only Taki being the wiser. He almost did it too before realizing that would give away his position than if he just continued to stand here and say nothing. Not that it was much of a covert position to begin with, it was still better than being out in the open with nothing much to do other than chatter. Dorth would have disagreed, but she was tired of fighting Cain. She fought him with the bath, with the flying, even with the dish that he currently held in his hands! She was not about to fight with him about being more social with the others.
Moving to eye Beleth, Dorth let out a low chortle at being addressed in such a formal manner. Not that the older female minded it, it was just a bit unusual for her. Of course little one! I'm Dorth and my rider is Cain. The one currently being sulky over in the corner cause I gave him a bath and made him come here. Okay. Maybe that was not entirely accurate, but close enough to being so. Moving over so that Beleth had enough room to lay down beside her, she rested her head back onto the sands. I see no problem with you observing the picnic with us. The more the merrier is a good motto to use here.

Beleth blinked in some surprise - she had been too distracted to notice the skeleton's arrival - and looked to where he was hiding. A bit bashfully, the smaller brown settled into the place offered her, though she kept a sharp eye on Taki.
I didn't know Cain was your rider! I've... met him. He was a very good friend to Taki when she needed one. Made her laugh. Absently Beleth's tail flicked slightly; she had a question, but wasn't sure how to ask it. So, after a bit of debate, she just did. Taki told me that you sometimes fly with Cain held, rather than on your back. Do... do you think you could help me learn to do that, too? I worry that when I start flying with Taki that she'll fall off. She's so small, I don't know if I'd feel it right away, and I worry she's not strong enough to hold on through rough winds. But if I can hold onto her somehow, I'd know she was safe. Here she looked down at the ground. Not that I'm actually flying, yet. As the shadow of the circling dragon swept over them slightly, Beleth tried to make herself smaller, though she realized she was feeling less anxiety that before. Taki! That Myrgwae had used her empathy on her, to remove the sting of her worry. While she appreciated getting to talk with Dorth, if this deadened her awareness of possible dangers, they would have a long talk about it! Though she had to admit, she felt her heart warm considerably, knowing that Taki had done it with her best interests and happiness at heart.
Taki smiled to see Beleth take her place by the older dragon. That's what she had wanted for her bonded; for her to relax and try to make some friends. And Cain's want to stay as invisible as he could was something she could feel from where she was! Deciding to have a little pity on her friend, she stepped a bit away from the others, found a nice sunny patch to sit in, and pulled out her flute, starting up a lively, cheerful tune suitable for a picnic. After all, every good gathering deserved a little music!

That is one of the things my Cain is good at. The other is being stubborn. Chuckling softly, Dorth knew that wasn't gonna be the end of the conversation, but decided to let the young dragon take the lead here. Hearing her question, Dorth nodded slowly. Yes. Namely cause he hates flying and it is one of the only ways I can get him into the sky. As for teaching you...I believe I could. Eyeing Taki, she nodded slowly. Yes. Taki looks to weigh about as much as Cain does if not a little more despite being smaller. And it does not matter if you have mastered the art of flying yet. We can start by simply jumping and trying to land on your hind legs.
Dorth could barley contain her excitement even as she appeared calm on the outside. Only thing that gave her away was the slight twitching of her wings. She had a student! Someone wanted to learn from her instead of one of the other dragons. This was great! Cain could barely contain his smile as some of the emotion filtered through their bond. So Beleth did ask after all. That was good even as Brains poked her head out to see what was going on and noticed the food. Letting out happy squeaks, she dived right in, Cain making no move to stop her.

Beleth could hardly contain her own excitement at Dorth’s acceptance, so strong the young dragon shook for a few moments from head to tail! While she was never one to complain about being on terra firma with Taki, she’d dreaded the thought that their flying together would be either a fearful excursion of waiting for that one grave slip and losing her, or having to resign herself to never taking to the air with her bonded. She’d known of Cain’s suggestion, but since it had hinged on another’s willingness she had refused to get her hopes up. Now, however, with the positive response Beleth let her heart soar with happiness.
Thank you so much! I promise I will be an attentive student and listen to everything you have to say, even if all I can do is jump and land for a year! Maybe Taki could learn what a joy it was to fly after all, because of course where would be safer than within Beleth’s protective grasp? Then she gave a sheepish dragon-grin. And I apologize if Cain was put-out from the soaking I gave him. He can blame Tam’kar though; that kitsune was in his lap at the time.
Taki’s tail flipped as she sensed the surge of joy from her dragon, and with an internal chuckle pulled her empathic Push back just a bit. Now that Beleth was feeling good on her own, maybe she would see that there was nothing to fear here, either of anyone or for her small rider. She let her piping glide into a bouncy tune, one from a foreign land about a time when the moon descended down to the earth in the form of a beautiful woman named Luna, to find out what mortals were like and the series of humorous encounters she had, mostly to do with misunderstandings and her observations on the strangeness of people. The song had always made Taki laugh out loud, though just piped without any lyrics sung it became an ideal dance song or just a good one to listen and chat to. She was so caught up in her song that she almost didn’t see the darting echee making a bee-line for the picnic food! Her eyes widened at the last second, but there was no time to cry a warning, even to her bonded, as Brains numbly skirted past Tam’kar and onto the blanket. The Spirit Animal yipped in surprise, nearly flipping mid-air to see what ran under his tails, and spun to look at the echee. Rather daringly, he approached.
Alright you, he said in an firm, no-nonsense voice (something that was a little rare coming from the mischievous white fox), that’s for everyone. It’s not polite to start before everyone’s arrived, so why not come over here and wait like a good little echee? Somehow, perhaps because Brains remembered the soaking her nest had received indirectly because of the kitsune, Tam’kar’s words were less than effective. Taki’s flute trilled as she giggled. At least hers were behaving for the moment, though she gave both Tam’kar and Honor freedom to stop the echee if they decided to take Brains’ cue to start a free-for-all.
