Arlene didn't want an altercation but seriously didn't the knight realize his aggressive stance and scent would probably be more antagonistic to the spider than his obvious owner who was treating him as a pampered pet. Though yes the question of how poisonous they were was smart, spiders had their own place in this world which humanity most likely hadn't earned yet. It should have been encouraging instead of discouraging on the one acting well not quite like a dog and definitely not as standoffish as a cat. She'd known people that kept jumping spiders as pets and they would chase laser pointers like a cat. Tarantulas on the other hand... well let's just say keep those away from her. The flip side of the coin of gathering information by standing here was everyone talking themselves out of it. She hiked her skirts a bit and started climbing the ladder to the attic. Let the men sort out how long they'd talk she'd been in worse places than an attic full of spiders. She started carefully growing and placing the moss in the attic keeping an eye out for the spiders. If they were like normal spiders they'd retreat and hide at too much light. Other hand, they could also decide to attack. She'd show them no fear and no aggression unless they showed the latter to her first.

Cain shrugged. "Worse comes to worse, I would just have to change out my bones. I'm sure I can crave a saydar bone or echee bone to the right size." He really wasn't too worried about the bite. If he turned into a statue, he turned into a statue. A little bit of chiseling away at the joints would fix that soon enough. "If you want too Terris, I'm sure we could find a plastic sheet to wrap you up in." He was only lightly teasing the knight. While he didn't quite understand the other's fear, he too had seen what spider bites could do to flesh and skin. Bone was usually unaffected.
"Least we know we don't have to worry about getting jumped on...Yet." He was sure the more people that went up there, the more crowded it would be which would mean the more likely it was the creepy yet beautiful spiders would attack them. The aggressive anyway. He doubted the docile ones would do much worse than crawl over the others.
Moving up into the attic, he slide onto the floor and watched as the spiders scurried away from him. "Coast is clear for now. Though Terris, I would wait until you were the last one up. Miss, if the spiders truly will shy away from you, I suggest you coming up next. I think the best way would be to put the ones most likely to be affect by the bite closer to the entrance while we scour the others and get into their personal space bubbles." Cain was trying to think ahead, but he didn't know how much of it would actually be helpful. Moving to make room for the next person up, he moved over to a corner and started to poke his hand up into the dark corner.
Maybe he would get lucky and find a smooth one first. Maybe.

Leyora was simply overwhelmed by all the people that came rushing to aid the inn owners. More than once she coughed to try to cover up a laugh, whether it was from Terris thinking she was in trouble or Cain's companions scarfing down some pies that she had until recently been completely unaware of. It seemed there was too much going on for her to properly answer any that addressed her directly, so she merely smiled and nodded to Duzell, hoping everyone would let it slide. she was even more fascinated by the items that people started pulling out to solve the issue of providing safe light in such close quarters. "Will there really be room for us all even with cages up there to put them?" She was mostly just musing out loud, until an idea hit her. "If you have it, I'll stay down here on the steps of the ladder with the cages ready. That way I can pass cages up to you one at a time and when they are full, pass them back to me and I can send up another empty one." To herself, she thought even though today wasn't supposed to be the actual opening day of the inn, as there was obviously still some work to be done, maybe she could muster up a small but special meal for everyone, thanking them for all the help that they were offering. She might be bad with words and face to face interaction sometimes, but she was good at warm gestures.
No advance warning was given as the rabbit lady, "Arlene." Eyrdith supplied testily, went pushing past all the others and right up the ladder. Leyora frowned a little but chose not to comment. She preferred well thought out plans over people charging in half cocked, but that was just her. Maybe more direct method worked better for others. This world was like like the ones the people had comes from after all. It had proved that time and again, so extra caution was never a bad thing. She watched as cain followed up and shrugged a little. She hoped that the osidae venom did not affect marrow.
"The cages are out where you were building earlier, yes?" Leyora looked to Duzell as the team captain in this game of round up they were about to play. "I'll be right back with them." Not waiting for an answer she hurried outside to breathe in some fresh air and relax as she sought out and fetched the cages. She couldn't help being nervous at the thought that the attic might be full of spiders like Sweetheart, who was anything but sweet. Focusing on her concerns over that helped her to deal with the social anxiety that she felt. Mustering her courage and desire to help backup, she grabbed the cages, ran a hand through her hair and reentered the Inn. She held them up to show how big they were and how many had been built so far. "Hopefully this will be enough. I dread thinking that we might have to use the food crates from the cellar."

Amerlan listened to each of the others intently. A few seemed set on a plan while another seemed to think charging head first would be the best idea. She had to admit that planning would have been the best choice, but at this moment she wasn't really thinking towards best choice. She had seen the Osidae encase bodies in their crystal, and while she didn't want that to happen to herself she had to admit speculating on the idea would be getting them no where.
"I'm heading up with Arlene. Toss us a few cages when you all figure out what you're going to do." With those words she climbed the ladder into the attic. For now only the places where the moss had been sown were lit, but with Artemis's addition things seemed to brighten up a fair bit, at least in a small vicinity around Amerlan.
It amazed her just how many Osidae were up here. Colors of all sorts glinted here and there. "Um, I think you all may want to see this." She had entirely forgotten about the objective to capture as many Osidae as she could. Instead she crept slowly toward a rather unoccupied spot on the wall and sat down. She sat and just took in the marvel of so many Osidae in one place. It was a mystery how so many could be sustained here, but then again she knew very little about them. The only real things she knew were that smooth ones are friendly, jagged ones are foul, and the males like to do a funny jig when vying for a mate.
Artemis tried to bury herself into Amerlan's neck, but she found she could no longer pass right through the Elfling. Her need for her bonded to keep her safe had brought them closer together. At the same time though, it might be possible for an Osidae to bite her now. She hoped her now much bigger size would ward them off.

Taki was surprised that Arlene rushed up the ladder like that, past everyone else even before anything was decided. She sensed the faint frustration and impatience, and just took it to be a train of the woman, though she was more in line with Cain’s thinking. Quietly she hoped that any ignorance of exactly what they were facing wouldn’t result in any harm or demise to any of them, or any of the spiders.
When the skeleton suggested his plan, Taki nodded, then waited for him to ascend the ladder before tucking her light rock into her hat band and following, hearing Tam’kar’s call for her to be careful, and to get back down the ladder if things turned bad. After reassuring him, she crested the final edge into the attic itself, and stared in awe! It was so beautiful! Even more so than she could have imagined, the crystals refracting the lights provided and throwing rainbows over everyone. A few spiders scurried away at their approach, all smooth crystal, and as their previous conversations made it seem like they were harmless she advanced a bit more, looking around, her feline eyes catching and enhancing the light so that to her, it was bright daylight in the enclosed space. Aware that others would need her to move, she went to one side, peering at one smooth blue osidae that didn’t seem to be awake, that is until she got nearby and it felt the tremors created by even her feather-light steps, climbing up and scurrying up a rafter.
*There’s so many!* she gasped to no one in particular, feeling overwhelmed and a little concerned that there were too many for them to deal with. A tickling at her tail made her jump with a quickly smothered giggle, as another smooth one used the appendage to make a quick getaway, and her hat shifted near over her eyes as another took that route. Seeing that one step onto the wall nearby, and that it was smooth, she gently reached out and picked it up. *I’ve got one! Where’s a trap for it?* She glanced back at the hole… then paused, ears perking up in surprise and a bit of alarm and tail flicking in instinctive warning. Just past Cain she saw one crouched in the shadows, with spiky legs and body poised aggressively. Cautiously she made her way over as others were coming up, trying to interpose herself between the spider and the skeleton, hoping that these arachnids would be as affected by her Nature’s Affinity as ones back where she came from were. *Easy there. I’m not going to hurt you. Just relax.* Normally she didn’t need to speak to affect creatures, but it certainly made herself feel better this time! It suddenly occurred to her that she was still holding the other one, and that with it in both of her much smaller than a human’s hands, she would have no real means to defend herself it her Affinity failed. All she could hope was that if it lunged at her, her agility would be enough.
(Words 517/500, awake, ignorance, demise. Hope no one minds that I put a jagged in there. Thought it would be fun to see if her Nature’s Affinity would work.))

Post by Duzell on Jul 25, 2014 12:11:56 GMT -8
Duzell watched as nearly everyone decided it was time to head up the hatch. Well, the one good thing about that he supposed was that at least he would not be the first on to get bit. Now he just had to worry about almost the entire rest of the town dying in his attic. Great, that would make a wonderful start to their new business. Sighing he turned back to Terris. He had to stifle a bit of a laugh at the man’s babbling. Yes, he did understand how dangerous spiders could be, but after handling Fredrick for so long it was hard to think of him as anything but perfectly docile. Besides, wasn't Terris supposed to be the brave one?
“If they do bite, which the smooth ones rarely do, their venom slowly crystallizes the flesh around it until whatever they bite has been turned entirely to crystal. There’s really no need to worry about Fredrick though, all he ever does is nap.” Duzell set Fredrick on his shoulder so he could keep his hands free and continued. “And thankfully yes, I do have the herbs that are required to stop the spread of the venom. They are at my house however, so if anyone does get bit I’ll have to leave to go get them.” He was suddenly glad he had chosen a house so close to the inn, rather than the larger one near the lake. If he did have to run and get the antidote at least it would not take too long.
Thinking about the venom and the possible need for the antidote was starting to make him a bit paranoid about what was happening up in the attic. He had not heard any screams of pain, but that did not mean anything. He turned back to Leyora. “I think that is an excellent plan. I’d rather not waste the cages on the smooth Osidae though. Do we have some kind of big box that we can toss them in, preferably with a lid? We can sort them all out later if we want. The jaggeds need individual cages or they might attack each other but we can toss all the smooth ones in the same box and most likely have no problems. Just so long as we keep them covered so they can’t hop back out again. So yeah, if you would find something like that it would be extremely helpful. I’m going to go check that everyone is still living up there.” With that he turned, grabbed a few cages and ascended the ladder back to the attic.
With the attic now better lit Duzell could really see that the inn had somehow become the national capital of Osidae-land. The nests were so massive that if he did not know any better he might have believed they were fake. Surely the Osidae did not have the time to build this large of a nest in the short amount of time the inn had existed. It would not have greatly surprised him to find out that the Chaos God had put them there when the town was built. Yeah, that seemed exactly like something she would do. Most attics get infested with bats or birds, but what glorious chaos it would be to stuff one full of spiders. Shaking his head, Duzell looked around to make sure everyone else was still breathing. It appeared no one was hurting from an Osidae bite at least. So far so good then.
The Osidae had retreated from Arlene’s light as she had entered the attic. The smooth ones just wanted out of her way. She was big and scary and could squish them. The jagged ones were not as concerned, they knew that they could kill if they needed to. But they had nests to protect and that took priority. Still, more than one hissed at her as she crossed their paths. Come any closer, they warned, and you will find out how dangerous we can be.
Their reaction to Cain’s appearance was nearly the same; they all got out of his way. The jagged creatures hissed from inside holes in their nests. The smooth ones skittered across the floor, running to and fro trying to escape the invaders. Some were hiding in corners while others had decided to climb the walls and disappear into the rafters. It was impossible to know just how many Osidae had taken up residence in the inn although if they wanted to be rid of the spider problem they were all soon going to have to find out.
Amerlan’s spot on the wall was not as clear as she had believed it to be. Right above her a smooth hot pink Osidae had been hiding from the light. As she settled down underneath it with her brightly shining spirit animal the spider got so frightened that the Osidae missed her step and fell directly onto Amerlan’s head. The spider froze. She was stranded on a big scary thing. Hopefully it would not squish her.
As Taki picked up the smooth cobalt male Osidae he felt her nature affinity reach out and calmed him. He went completely limp in her hand, trusting that she would not let anything bad happen to him. The scarlet jagged Osidae felt the effects of Taki’s natural magic as well, but her own instincts were much stronger than the smooth male’s. She reared up her front legs and hissed, a warning to stay away. While she may not have charged like she usually would, there was no way she was going down without a fight!
Duzell turned to Taki. “I think Leyora or Terris is going to get a box to put all the smooth Osi in. You’ll need one of these for your red lady there though.” He inched forward, doing his utmost to not startle the jagged Osidae. He carefully handed Taki the cage. “Be careful. Those females are bigger than the males and just a bit meaner, especially when they’re guarding nests.”
One jagged male was very displeased by all this commotion. First some lilac female had kicked him out of his nest and then he almost got stepped on by some crazy lady with bright plants. He hissed and sputtered at the indignity. This would not be allowed. He spotted her outline in the darkened attic and made his way over to her, dodging feet and lights in his quest. Soon he was close enough to leap at her. With a final hiss he jumped and aimed to bite her arm. It was in that moment that Cain, completely unaware of the kamikaze spider, stepped between them. Instead of the soft flesh the Osidae was expecting his fangs sunk into hard bone. Dazed, he fell to the ground at Cain’s feet with two small sky colored pin pricks the only evidence he had bitten Cain. Without blood to work through the body, the Osidae venom took much longer to spread as it penetrated Cain’s marrow. It slowly worked its way up and down his radius; transforming bone into sky blue crystal all while leaving the shape unchanged.
Duzell took the opportunity of the spider’s concussion to quickly stick it in a cage. “Umm I think that one should probably be yours, if you want it. Are you alright there? I didn’t know their venom could get bones. I’ll go get my herbs, although they can only stop the spread, not reverse the effects.”
As Duzell climbed out of the attic and went to collect the herbs, Fredrick realized that his owner had one spider too many. In the commotion Duzell had failed to notice the smooth tan male climb up next to Fredrick. As Duzell walked passed Terris, Fredrick asserted his claim as the one rider of Duzell’s shoulder and kicked the tan Osidae off his perch. The tan male sailed through the air and managed to find grip on something soft before he hit the ground. The Osidae clung to Terris’ back and tried to figure out just where he had landed.

As everyone made their way into the attic, Taki breathed a small sigh of relief. Despite there having been no voices of dissent to their plan, that mostly was due to the fact there plan had been rather rough to begin with. Thankfully, as Duzell made his way in, there had been no tragedies yet. She could only hope that things stayed that way!
The hissing from the jagged Osidae had been startling, and a little unnerving as well. But when Taki felt the cobalt one she held going relaxed and calm, it did a lot to calm her too. Her Nature’s Affinity worked! Although they seemed more intelligent that the spiders she was used to, they weren’t so smart that it had no effect. While she kept her eyes on the jagged crimson one in front of her, her ears turned back to listen to Duzell speak and she reached out a hand for the cage, putting the smooth male she’d picked up on her shoulder much as he had Fredrick on his and letting it hold to the fabric of her dress. Her plan was that maybe she could get the jagged spider to go into the cage without upsetting or irritating her any further. Perhaps if she could convince the female that coming with her was a better option? Trying this theory, she projected thoughts of the little shed out behind her house, empty since she had no tools for gardening or anything to fill it, as a home for the Osidae. Safe, shelter from the elements, perhaps it would be a good alternative? Or she remembered some woods not too far from town where she could release the rough-bodied female. That way it could have all the room it wanted to hunt – did they hunt? – and make nests and have her babies. As she set the cage down, edging it closer by her hand on its lid with the opening to the female, she began to feel a little hopeful about this endeavor. Maybe they could get out of this without anyone being bitten after all!
Then, she saw the one lunge out at Arlene! Taki gasped in shock and horror, eyes torn away from the crimson female and to the scene, unable to even think of crying out a warning in time as it landed on Cain’s arm by accident and bit him. While the blue crystal that became his arm bone was pretty, she couldn’t help but think that it had to be painful, and her heart seized up in worry. Cain had always been nothing but kind to her, and she hated to see a friend hurt or in pain. But hadn’t Duzell said something about medicine to help? Now would probably be a good time to get them out (of course, she had no idea they weren’t at the inn, unfortunately).
Sensing his Bonded’s emotions, Tam’kar bounded over to the bottom of the ladder, putting his front paws on a lower rung to looking up worridly. He couldn’t reach her, and she needed him! He whimpered softly, then spotted a smooth Osidae that apparently decided that since everyone else was –up- then the best place for it to be was –down,- crawling along the ladder. He waited until it was within reach then carefully picked it up in his mouth, padded up to Leyora with the box, and gently dropped it in before returning to his self-appointed post of watching for any other runaways.

Cain backed away as Taki approached. He had seen the smooth go limp in her grasp and that little crimson devil wasn't having anything to do with him. She also didn't have anything to do with the feline humanoid, but at least she was just hissing. For now.
His path though happened to take him right in the line of fire of that sky jagged. Upside: Arlene wasn't bitten. Down side: Cain was.
The pain felt like a hot needle being stabbed into him and then...Nothing. Not even a tickle as he slowly watch the crystal spread up and down the bone. "Hmm. Yeah. I'm fine. Does not even tickle." Taking the cage, Cain carefully set the spider down someplace he couldn't hurt anyone else. "Teeth are certainly sharp, I'll give them that." Shrugging, Cain turned back to start reaching out for the jagged spiders. If this was the worst that happened to him, he was going to be okay.
Feeling eyes on him, he looked over at Taki and noticed how worried she looked. Frowning (which was just him moving his lower jaw under his upper teeth), he moved over to reassure her that he was just fine. "Hey. I'm okay. I do not have blood in my veins so the worse that can happen is that it just spreads to one bone. Not like I cannot find a replacement or just use my arm to knock out Terris when he starts to blabber again." The last part was suppose to be a joke. "Want some help getting that female into the cage? I can come in behind her and prevent her from backing away from the door or even going into a different direction."
The crystal had almost covered the entire bone by now, but like Cain had predicted, it didn't travel much past the actual bone. It stopped at his shoulder and wrist. Since it couldn't grow one way, the crystal had apparently decided to grow outwards. As Cain was getting his own personal shield made out of his arm, he maneuvered his body to try and trap in that crimson spider of Taki's. Though he wouldn't actually try to help until he got her permission. He did not want to ruin whatever effect she was having on the creatures after all.

The wave of relief that Cain was alright was a strong one. Taki had never been around skeletons before – and she was fairly certain the ones she had been faintly aware of before were definitely not friendly according to a cleric friend of hers – so to find out that it seemed the spider’s venom couldn’t actually harm him made her feel a lot better. Briefly she wondered if diseases had the same lack of effect, but this was hardly the place or time to ask. And she appreciated him coming over to reassure her; keeping her own emotions in check at the moment would probably help things run more smoothly, at least in her corner. She just certainly hoped that his being bitten wouldn’t be a reoccurring event. No matter how pretty the crystal may have been, that would be a regrettable event. She briefly removed one hand from the cage to cover her mouth to giggle at his joke, though that was kind of a pointless act for one who spoke entirely by telepathy, and spared a glance at Terris to see if he’d heard, though she wasn’t certain on that as she was unable to find him at that moment. This attic was getting crowded fast!
*I’m glad you’re okay. And yeah, it might help. Maybe if she thinks that moving towards me is safer, I can get her to crawl into the cage. They’re so pretty, it’s strange that they’re so dangerous too.* Seeing what had happened to him made her even more wary of them; she was flesh and blood, and had no desire to become a Taki statue!
Carefully she moved around to get a little bit closer to the jagged female, who was still hissing at her, lowering the cage to try and coax her to get inside without picking her up. Quite likely that would get her bitten! At the same time, she was trying to keep the docile male on her shoulder relaxed and balanced. Even the most calm of creatures would become hostile if they were disturbed or frightened!
But as she set the box down, her turquoise eyes finally caught sight of Terris… and she froze in place, seeing what was clinging to his back. It was right in the middle too, between his shoulder blades. Fortunately, she thought it was smooth. That was probably why it hadn’t bitten him the instant it had landed, if it could get its fangs through his armor at all. Unfortunately, she remembered his worrisome questions from earlier, and cringed inwardly to think what he might do when he realized his unintended passenger.
*Um, Cain?* she ‘whispered,’ murmuring directly to the skeleton so no one would hear her but him, *you, um, might want to maybe get that spider off of Terris? Before he realizes it’s there?* She supposed it could be worse: the tan Osidae could accidentally get –under- his armor. As Duzell went to get his medicine, she hoped he would hurry, and even more so that they wouldn’t be needed!

Terris had briefly left the inn to make his way around to the back of his tavern, where he knew there were a few empty barrels with nice, sturdy lid. He grabbed one, rolled it into the inn and was just getting ready to call up that he had found something to store the smooth spiders in, when Duzell came down.
He did not see the spider flung at him, but he certainly felt it hit the small of his back, could feel the skittery legs clinging to his shirt. His eyes grew wide, and then closed as he willed himself to remain calm. There were two things he could do. Either stay perfectly still and hope the spider moved to a place where he could grab it, or stop, drop and roll, risking a bite in his attempt to crush the beast.
Considering he wanted to live (though he hardly cared if the osidae was crushed by his weight) he stood still, in the hopes Duzell would come back, or someone else would come down to remove the pest.

Least his joke got a laugh out of Taki. That was good. Not that there were many bad things going on, but whenever he could make someone laugh, he always thought that was a good thing. Hearing her accept his offer to help, Cain gently put his hand behind the crimson and started to slowly move towards the spiders butt. It wasn't a long trip, but time seemed to drag on anyway. "Where I am from, many pretty things are dangerous. It is how they survive." You did not survive by sticking out...Usually.
Just as he was about to touch the crimson's butt, Taki whispered to him. Looking up at her, he turned to look towards where she was looking as she explained about the spider situation. "That is not good and I think he might have already realized it." Backing away slowly, Cain made his way down the ladder and towards Terris. He hoped Taki would be okay alone (or mostly alone) with the crimson.
"Terris. I'm going to come around and get your little friend. Soon as you feel me start to lift it off, dive." He would wait a beat to make sure the Knight heard him (though that did not mean Terris was going to follow what he had said) before moving around to study the smooth spider. "Ready?" Not giving much more warning than that, Cain moved and picked up the spider from Terris's back. "All done." The skeleton held the spider in his hands and studied the little guy. "What do you want me to do with him?"

Leyora beamed at the praise from Duzell for her idea and was quick to make her way down the stairs and back into the kitchen to fulfill his request. One of the doors into the food cellar was in the kitchen, but she did not quite manage to get that far. The scene laid before her in the kitchen was too shocking for her to ignore. Flour and sugar was everywhere, egg goo thinly coated what at one time might have been and echee, amongst other things. Said echee was currently nibbling on a radish while rolling lazily back and forth in the bowl that had at one time held the dry ingredients for the cake she had planned to bake for the co-owner of the inn. What was worse, The batter dipped echee must have been Chubs for Sassy and Friday were still recognizable, at least. Sassy was jealously guarding what was left of the salad bowl by throwing tiny tomatoes at Friday. Meanwhile Friday was prancing about merrily and chewing a hole through a leaf of lettuce. Eventually the hole grew large enough for him to poke his head through and made it seem as though he were wearing a cape that gave him remarkable tomato dodging super powers.
Leyora groaned and stared in disbelief. She didn't have time for this right now and she could only handle one disaster at a time. There wasn't much point in stopping the rodents now, but once this osidae business was over with, one could bet there would be some extra pet training in Leyora's future. For now, though, she hurried down into the cellar to empty a couple of vegetable and fruit crates that had conveniently hinged lids on them. She was careful not to damage the food, but she didn't bother with stacking things neatly right now. That could be done after all the osidae were rounded up and accounted for.
Soon, she returned topside with the crates only to find that Terris had found some barrels that would do just as nicely. Shrugging, she sat her crates down and picked up a couple more cages to hand up to those in the attic. As she turned around though, she was met with an unusual scene, as Cain of the gemmed over arm appeared to be attacking Terris. She took half a step back, dumbfounded, before she realized what the skeleton was attempting to do and then she laughed. "Need a cage or a barrel? We have some handy crates, now too." She held up the cage and gestured to the barrel and crates as if she were trying to sell them.
Leyora's eyes seemed to hardly move from the new gem bone that that her friend now sported, seemingly in a carefree manner. "I'm afraid we are fresh out of human bones, Cain. Seriously, though, are you two going to be alright? Were you bit, Terris?" The concern she held for her friends was quite genuine, despite her attempt at humor.

Taki breathed a sigh of relief that the spider on Terris had been smooth, and turned her focus back to the jagged lady in front of her. Who was still hissing. The Myrgwae sighed.
*C'mon, pretty one. Into the cage, please?* Although it wasn't quite how she wanted to handle things, if there was two jagged, there might be others, and the longer she delt with this one the higher chance someone else might cross one of the angry arachnids. So, taking off her hat, she used it much as Cain had been intending, trying to gently nudge the crimson osidae into the cage.
Tam'kar bounced around the ladder, sensing his Bonded's momentary distress, and in the process nearly landed on another smooth osidae who had fled the action above. A quick pick up and into the barrel with the other took care of it, though He saw a few more creeping along the ceiling and down the ladder. With a small chittering sound, he took to his own osidae roundup with a will, calling to the other Bondeds in the room to help as well.

Arlene shook her head sighing. She'd appologize to the skeleton when there was more chance. As for the rest of the spiders, well she may be a pacifist healer, but that did not mean she didn't have defenses. There was more seeds mixed in with the moss spores and if these really wanted to pissed her off well let's just say nature herself had come up with nasty surprises for bugs. A few vines slithered out of the moss in response to her thoughts, slow and as careful as any snake, as she started gently picking up some of the smooths.

While observing everything a glimmer had caught the corner of her eye. The light that Artemis had been casting had caught a facet on one of the Osidae. From her angle she couldn't tell if it was smooth or rough, or even the color. Inching slightly over she tried to get a better look. Her view still obscured she tried to reach out to it. If it was friendly maybe it would come close, if it was a jagged she could always retreat when it hissed.
Her plan was interrupted when she felt the plop of something landing on her head. Amerlan and Artemis both turned their heads toward each other and froze. Amerlan didn't want to hurt the poor thing, and Artemis just wanted it to get the hell away from her. As the Osidae stood frozen in Amerlan's hair she closed her eyes and remained still trying to think of a plan. With Artemis half way across the room and completely intimidated by the small Osidae Amerlan knew she couldn't rely on her for any help. She really didn't want to hurt the poor thing, but it couldn't be left in her hair, and she really didn't want her hand to get bit. She supposed her tail could work, but she definitely didn't want that to get bit either.
Sighing she realized her only choice would be to try and gently lift the thing out of her hair. Ever so slowly she moved her hand towards the Osidae atop her head. Hand flat, palm facing the ground, she hoped it appeared as least threatening as possible. She had just about reached the Osidae when Artemis let out a screech and Amerlan jerked her hand away. "Why would you do that?! I almost had the poor thing and now you've probably gone and scared the others too!"
"Well why would you want to touch it? It might nip you! And you're no good to me covered in crystal!" Artemis screeched at her.
"Would you be quiet! You're probably scaring them! It's a smooth! They're usually very nice if you're nice to them!" Amerlan whisper yelled. She really didn't want to scare the one on her head any more just in case it did decide to freak out and bite her.
"It's your funeral then! Don't come crying to me when you turn hot pink." The bird hovered in the middle of the room staring at her bonded.
Slowly and gently she moved her hand towards the Osidae on her head again. Like a mother comforting a small child she whispered quietly to the Osidae. "It's alright now. The big bad birdy won't get you. Climb on up I'll take care of you." Patiently she kept her hand flat and about three inches away from the Osidae. Close enough for it to climb on if it wished and far enough that she hoped it didn't perceive her as threatening. Her other hand moved blindly on the floor, hoping to find the cage she knew had been placed close to her. She knew that they were supposed to use them for jaggeds only, but she figured she could put two or three smooth's in there and then transport them downstairs. She could then reuse the cage again if need be.
