((5xp Lucky Dip))
The hour was late and all seemed to be asleep... all but Leyora. Only one of the three moons were visible and it was waning, making it difficult to see, but still she did her best to stare off into the distance. She was feeling out of sorts, missing her family and feeling lonely for it. Seeing her mother and father's faces as they searched for her and mourned her disappearance was becoming a recurring nightmare that haunted her.
At the same time she was becoming overwhelmed by the one thing she thought she'd never get tired off, animal companions. It wasn't that she was bored with them. Quite the opposite! She was filled to the brim with love coming from them and going out to each of them. Sometimes it felt like an emotional strain. Other times it felt like she and the other riders were even defying laws of nature, upsetting the balance somehow. Glancing over her shoulder at the echee, saydar and pload sleeping in a most unlikely bundle, she laughed softly and admitted she wouldn't change it even if she could, though.
Restless, she got up and paced the sands. Another, more foreign, feeling seemed to brush through her briefly and when she turned to see if anyone was there, she could have sworn she saw the edges of a cloak flutter across the ground. Perhaps it was just the lighting, though. Strolling over to investigate, she found a message written in the sand commanding her to meet up right away on a small island southeast of the Nexus and to bring the shell that was left with the message. Supposedly this secret friend had just what she needed to ease her mind. Raising a brow, she doubted that very much, but she was too curious just to let it go.
Touching Eyrdith's mind through their bond, she woke the dragon up. "Do you know of any small islands southeast of here?" "You woke me up for that?! Yes, I know three or four. What of it?" "We need to find one, a specific one... now." Eyrdith rumbled in protest sensing that her rider had no clue which one they were looking for. Leyora quickly made shushing motions with her hands. "Don't wake the others. We'll let this be a surprise for them too." Even as Eyrdith began to protest more, Leyora was gently lifting Rasmus and settling him beside the pets. If this 'something' was as wonderful as it seemed then surely the cub's young mind would be also dazzled by the mystery gift... or purchase. "If we come back from this! Oh fine. I can tell your mind is already made up." "Yes!" Leyora snatched up her ugly wicker basket, hoping whatever it was she needed would fit inside it,
and mounted up.
Despite the warm weather lately, the evening wind held a sharp enough chill to make Leyora huddle against against her dragon's neck all the closer. "I still can't believe you woke me up to scour the countryside for someone or something that you know nothing about!" "Honestly, me neither, but it just feels... right. I can't explain it."
After touching down on two other islands, the mystified pair finally landed on the correct island. At the center of said island they could see a shrouded form but could not tell any of the details. The way the figure was standing made it impossible if they were tall and skinny, short and muscular, or any other body style. Anxiousness crept over Leyora's skin, raising goosebumps, but still she stepped forward and asked with more confidence than she felt, "So, at what cost does this thing that I need so much come to me? It seems unusual to merely return to you the shell that you left behind, lovely though it is."
