((2 Random Abnormals))
Deep in the heart of the grove, Cyrus and Rasmus were curled up together, napping and enjoying the cool feel of shaded earth during this hot day. Leyora sat with her back against a tree frowning at a ragtag bundle of leaves in her lap. Several hours ago, Eyrdith had deposited the trio near the grove so that they could take a walk and so Leyora could find some leaves to practice her sewing. The idea was that if she could learn more about sewing, then she could finally make herself a decent change of clothes. What she had in her lap, however, looked far more like a costume meant for a large paper doll, rather than anything any human could confidently wear.
Sighing in frustration, she discarded the holey leaves and considered joining her handsome bondeds in a nap. Resting her head against the trunk, she closed her eyes and pondered what the figure had said about the bicorn being just what she had needed. She wasn't sure that much had changed at first, but it was true that Rasmus seemed less restless now that he had a fellow orphan to better understand the feelings he was going through. She had yet to tell the pair of the family she had left behind, though they both realized she had similar feelings that she was suppressing. Despite her trying to hide the feelings, the common loss formed a bond, not just of them accepting each other as they had in the beginning something even closer to the heart, making them more of a family. It was a shared bond that none would relinquish even for the highest ransom. Perhaps that was what the figure on the island had meant.
It was a pleasing thought that almost lulled Leyora to sleep with the others, except the something at the edge of her senses kept niggling at her. It was Chubs! The little echee had at some point crawled out of the wicker basket that had almost exclusively become Rasmus's riding basket. She had not even known that he had tagged along. What had kept her from drifting completely off was the sound of tiny teeth scritching against some unknown blob. Groaning and stretching, Leyora got up to see what the little rodent had found this time. Finding Chubs was a chore in itself, though. Somehow the critter had found a cave that was cleverly hidden by grass, rocks and a thick, fragrant moss. He was nibbling at a moss covered something-or-other that was the only thing keeping a rock even bigger than he was from being released from an even larger hole.
The gap looked big enough for Leyora to crawl in, if the rock and debris were removed. Deeper into the tunnel, she could see something faintly blue and sparkly wedged into the wall. That must be what Chubs was after. Somewhere behind them, Cyrus and Rasmus could be heard as they woke and came to investigate. Cyrus laid his ears back. "I hope you do not intend on going in there. There could be just about anything in there and it might not necessarily be friendly." "It is a chance I'll have to take. Can you really say no to this little face?" She held up Chubs, who gave a very put upon expression, to Cyrus. "Someone should." Leyora laughed and went back to digging the hole bigger.
Rasmus growled. "Can you hear that? There is something down there... maybe more than one something." The other shook their heads, but the eld'rani was insistent. Not waiting for Leyora to move, he scrambled through the opening and shimmied down the tunnel. "Whatever they are, they are a good distance in. I will check to see if they are friendly." Any protest from Leyora was ignored as her brave little protector prowled onward. While she was waiting, Leyora went ahead and dug out the shiny bits that Chubs had been trying to get to. Coming back with more than one, she handed Chubs a respectable sized stone for his little paws and tucked the two larger pieces into her small pouch of herbs. She would ask around later and see if any person or dragon knew what the stones were. For now, though, she was worried for her cub.
