Amerlan wiped her brow as she finished setting up the last table. Each of the three tables had bright and colorful presents laid upon them. It had taken some work and hunting to acquire these, but she thought that they would be a perfect way to celebrate their first week in town! She even had a forth table set up over to the side with drinks and a few fruit dishes. With the sun high in the sky and not a cloud to be seen they would probably be in need of those refreshments.
"Lianth! Would you mind doing me a favor?" The little Dragon had been helping her move the presents from the safety of her room out into the open. She had of course chosen a shaded spot, she didn't want the presents to spoil after all!
The little blue Dragon nodded eagerly, "Of course! Do we need more fruit? I told Aelluth to pick more, but she never listens."
"No, no we have plenty of fruit, and Aelluth did a fine job. I swear you two really need to start getting along." Amerlan berated her lightly. This was to be a day of joy not scorn, so she wouldn't dwell on the two female's problems. "I need you to call the other's here! I think our presents have waited long enough. Oh! And don't forget to call those without Dragons too. If you need help I'm sure Seroth wouldn't mind." She then went back to straightening out the presents. Everything was going to be just perfect for her surprise to everyone!
Lianth managed to deliver the news to the majority of the Weyr, but a few escaped her. Thankfully Seroth picked up the loose ends and soon enough everyone had been invited to the little get together.
Rules: -Bring as many friends as you like! -Everyone will be going home with one present! So choose wisely! -Once a present has been claimed by someone it cannot be claimed again by another person!

The news of a party was greatly appreciated by the Myrgwae who heard it. After the tragedy in the desert, everyone involved certainly could use a happy occasion to lighten the heaviness of the matter. Of course, the concept of death wasn’t a foreign one to Taki, as it was something she had learned about long ago, in her second autumn in fact, when one of her first traveling companions had lost his mother. That had been her first contact with the painful emotion of grief, and at the time it had shaken her to her core. But now she was older and wiser, and even if she didn’t like it, she knew that sometimes it was unavoidable.
The instant she heard of the celebration, honoring the first week in town, she gathered up all of her companions that wanted to go, and they headed over to Amerlan’s house. She regretting her E'nyan Rabbits couldn’t come with, but their litter had been born recently, and she knew they were busy taking care of the little bunnies, unable to leave them. So she promised to bring them some treats from the celebration to make up for their not attending. Her group was small, but everyone seemed in a cheerful, ready to celebrate mood, especially Tam’kar who bounced circles around everyone and chatted non-stop the entire stroll over. Overhead Taki saw what she guessed to be Amerlan’s dragon – she’d seen them together anyhow – flying off probably to pick up other guests. But as she’d been in town, still setting up her house and making triple-sure the rabbits were settled and didn’t need anything, all she had to do was walk over, perfectly fine for the fae. Though a part of her wished she could have been further away; getting a ride on a real dragon would have been fun!
The instant she saw the party site, Taki’s eyes went wide with delight, and Tam’kar did a flip! Everything looked so pretty and bright and just plain fun! The weather was perfect, the set-up was ideal, and the Myrgwae had a feeling that this was going to be fun for everyone who came to the party.
Hey, Taki, look at all those presents! It didn’t take Taki long to spot what Tam’kar meant, as she saw the tables laden with their gifts. The bright colors, varied wrappings and ribbons, and differing shapes brought a big smile for the whimsy of it all. While her eyes flickered over the sparkly wrapped ones first – she had an eye for anything that glittered, be it gems or quartz stones or mica flecks in a rock – then the contrasting simpler ones – simple had its own beauty to her that was equally attractive – but it was the smallest box that caught her attention the most. It was a little present wrapped in gold, small like her, nearly hidden between a brown wrapped package and a sparkly bag. Seeing her interest, Tam’kar bounded over and sniffed at it curiously, wondering what was inside, while Taki went to greet their hostess.
*Hi, Amerlan! Thanks for throwing this party. I probably should’ve found out if there was any way I could help, like bringing something, though I don’t know what I could’ve brought that you haven’t already taken care of.* The Myrgwae had been rummaging in her pocket as she spoke, and pulled out a river-smoothed blue agate, offering it to her. *I don’t know about where you are from, but on my home I was told that when you go to a party, you bring a gift for the host or hostess, thanking them for the fun and companionship for the evening. So I’d like you to have this, even though it’s not much. I found it in a river just before I came here!* She smiled brightly, hoping her thank you gift was acceptable.

Terris was busy fixing the weasel chewed tavern when the summons from Amerlan's dragon came. He sighed, turned back to what he was doing, having no intention of going anywhere until he had finished the task at hand. His plans were thwarted however, when he saw the faint purple glow of Morse, his spirit animal, out of the corner of his eyes. The dobermann puppy stared at him with pleading eyes, a slight whine escaping his muzzle.
Oh PLEASE, can't we go, just for a little while? I want to see all the people, and there might even be food for you! You like food, and you have been working here for hours. Everyone needs a break. The dark purple eyes pleaded, almost praying to his bonded to give up his work for the day (or for an hour or so at least).
Terris shrugged, thumped the final nail into the wooden plank he was fastening, then stood.
"Sure, why not. I could use a break anyhow, fixing this place is hard work and a few hours away from it won't do too much damage. Do me a favour though, go tell Amerlan I'll be along promptly. I just want to go back to the house and get changed into something that is not covered in dirt" The puppy, still all legs, and too-large ears wagged not only the stump that passed for his tail but his whole rear end, then bounded off in the direction of Amerlan's house.
Terris laughed, mounted the quietly waiting Saydar, Stupid. The almost completely snow white bird preened his feathers and trotted back home placidly enough, though it took Terris several minutes to find him again when he came back outside in a clean set of clothes.
The trouble with saydar as mounts is they were easily distracted with a tendency to wander, and Stupid was no exception, the bird was around the back of the house, filling his crop with berries from a nearby bush.
"Greedy bird!" Terris scolded, hopping back onto the beast's back. Stupid grunted, annoyed that his meal was being interrupted, but walked on nonetheless.
It did not take long for knight and bird to arrive at Amerlan's house, and when they did, Terris glanced appreciatively at the present table, but made a beeline for the table with the fruits on it. He took a small handfull of berries and placed them on the ground near the saydar, a reward for a job well done. The bird pecked him affectionately and he scratched the downy neck of the beast before wandering away to mingle.
It seemed he was the second to arrive, he saw Taki conversing with Amerlan, and raised his hand in a half-wave, lounging idly beside the present tables, his gaze occasionally falling on one package or another. Curious he picked one up, turning it in his hands, wondering what was inside.
"Should I shake it?" he asked nobody in particular, but placed it back on the table before he gave in to that particular urge. He didn't want to break anything, after all.

Luckily for Arlene, Anarith waited until she had some clarity to her thinking before spring the new party on her. "Do they do anything aside from parties? How do they get any work done? First the picnic then the beach party for the nynts and now a neighborhood block party?" The mage just couldn't wrap her mind around it. She sighed and pulled her clothes off her makeshift line getting dressed. "So whose place do I have to throw over my work for today?" She sighed. She really should be working on making sure there'd be enough supplies for winter. Be just like Mother Nature to throw an early winter that was long and hard.
Amerlan's... at least you can take those five birds she'd chosen to her.
Arlene pulled out the five sayder from the flock marked with berry stains throwing a choke lead to each leading the five birds to the other woman's place. "Brought your birds since was coming here for the party so you wouldn't have to come get them." Amon trotted along behind the sayder and seemed to be carrying a pineapple but closer inspection would show the pineapple was tied to the back sayder's leg.
Arlene's eyes flicked to the presents on the table. Was it a Solstice in summer to make them think cold thoughts? Her eyes lingered on the badly wrapped present. It was almost cute probably had something with paws and claws help wrapping.

"You cannot sit still for five minutes can you?" Duzell chuckled as Orryx, his spirit squid, came floating up behind Duzell before quickly shooting off to explore an alley next to the inn. Why would I want to do that? There's so much to see. Are you sure you can't walk any faster? We're going to miss the party. Orryx shot back out of the alley and impatiently circled around Duzell.
Duzell shook his head. "We are not going to miss anything, although I'm beginning to wonder if I should have left you at home." He wouldn't have stayed. He would have just followed us. And he's right, you do walk slow. Come on Duzell, I want to see what human parties are like! The little Nynt jumped up and down, trying to make Duzell move faster through sheer force of will. giving up, Misty sighed and fell in step with Duzell. Tell me more about human parties. Are they like Nynt parties? Will there be food and music and games? Oh, I hope there are lots of games. Duzell smiled at her. He was not exactly a party guru, having never had much time for them back in his own world, not to mention the one time he had tried to throw a get together here... "We'll just have to wait and see what Amerlan has for us."
When the trio finally arrived at the party Orryx immediately dashed off to explore everything, leaving Misty and Duzell to mingle at their own pace. Duzell saw that several others had arrived will he was walking over there. With a wave to Amerlan and Taki, Duzell wandered over to where Terris and Arlene were standing near the table of gifts. Cold breeze rushed around them as Orryx swam back over and began inspecting the presents. Immediately fascinated by the sparkly bag, Orryx started to poke his nose inside. Ooh, what’s in here? “Orryx no, that’s rude.” The squid stared at Duzell. But what’s in there? Duzell smiled, “Why don’t you go ask Amerlan? She would be the one who would know.” Meanwhile, Misty was staring at the silver luster of another present. I think I like this one the best. Looking over at Terris and Arlene she asked, I don’t suppose either of you know what’s inside these?

When word of the rendezvous arrived, Leyora was giving Cyrus a good brush down. The young stallion had explored some of the deeper parts of the grove and had many stick tights to show for it. Rasmus was not in much better shape, but it seemed that Tigress was willing to groom the other eld'rani, herself. Reaching down, she gave both big cats a scratch behind the ears and put the brushes away. the bicorn's mane and tail would need a comb and maybe her dagger to help get the burrs out. Eyrdith, who had been sufficiently moody lately, grumped "Well, aren't you going to go to the party? It is rude to keep to ignore an invite. You shouldn't keep to yourself so much." "I just like the quiet sometimes, that's all. Life here has been so busy... Still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to pop in for a little bit. What should I bring?" An image popped in her mind through her bond with Kapelle. It was an image of pies. Apparently the musical imp had broadcasted the image to all that shared her bond, too, for Cyrus whinnied as if he were laughing. "Oh, that would be a fine pot luck to bring after that incident at the Inn." Leyora laughed, too. "I wouldn't do that to Terris. I do have some meat buns started though. As soon as I finish with your mane and tail, I'll make up a few more and cook them all up."
Eyrdith sent a wave of indifference through the bond. "Well whatever you do, you'd best hurry. You don't want to be late, again." While it was true Leyora had shown up late a couple of times, she didn't think she had a reputation for it... yet. Nettled she worked as quickly and deftly as she could. She wondered at what kind of voodoo had to have been used to get a such a usually clean horse-like creature's hair so thoroughly gnarled. Once the grooming and cooking were finished, Cyrus offered to take Leyora to the square as it was "better to let sleeping dragons lie". Leyora agreed, for if her dreams lately were anything to go by, there was about to be a terrible storm and her dragon would be at the heart of it, if not the cause of it. Shuddering and letting that thought go, she gathered up everything she needed.
With her food basket filled and in her lap, on Cyrus's back, Kapelle curled up on her shoulder and both eld'rani cubs strolling along at either side, Leyora and company arrived at the town square in plenty of time. As seemed to be the usual, there was a thin dusting of flour on Leyora as she dismounted and nodded hello to everyone. She would have waved, but she did not want to risk dumping the basket of meat buns out. Speaking her thoughts out loud, she looked to Cyrus and said, "A set of saddlebags would be handy. Err... if I had a saddle, that is." Chuckling and shrugging, Leyora found a table to set her offering down on.
Kapelle fluttered off of her shoulder and started playing a lively fiddle tune as he tapped a paw on first one gift and then the next. Spotting the squid, his tune changed to something more like the music one might hear at a modern day carnival while carousel is running. He darted up and playing inspected each of the tentacles. Meanwhile Leyora was quietly contemplating the contents of the sparkly bag, the silver wrapped box and the box with the bright blue bow. The latter seemed to be wrapped with care. Speculation, as long as it was kept quiet, never hurt anyone after all.

Amerlan waved as Taki came over to her. "Nice to see you here Taki! Oh it's not a problem at all, kind of an impromptu thing really." Watching with interest as Taki searched for something her face broke out in a grin as the shiny stone was revealed. "Oh my, you shouldn't have, but thank you!" She wouldn't be rude and turn down a gift from someone who was becoming her friend.
Seeing Terris wave at them she returned the gesture. She was about to return to her conversation with Taki when out of the corner of her eye she saw Terris pick up a present with a glint in his eye. "You'll have to excuse me for a minute Taki." Rushhing over to Terris she sighed in relief when he set the gift down. "Careful with these. The thing inside may not take to kindly with manhandling." With the present safe, for now at least, she could spend some time talking to the man. They had never really conversed before. "Thanks for showing up the party! Oh! I didn't know you can ride Saydar. You'll have to show me sometime how you make one of those saddles."
Seeing Arlene arrive with her Saydar chicks she grinned and waved them over to where her and Terris were. "Hey Arlene! Come on over! Thanks for bringing the little one's by the way! Hope they weren't driving you insane."
By that time Duzell had joined their little group. She could only giggle as the Nynt and Spirit Animal inspected the presents. "It's a secret for now little one. But you'll know soon enough! As soon as a few others arrive your bonded can pick one out and open it!" In truth she really wanted them all to open the presents now, but they really should wait for everyone else to show up. Compromising with her self she decided one more person would have to arrive before they did anything.
It was almost like someone had heard her little deal with herself. Leyora had arrived and now the real fun could begin. Whistling she broke through the chatter to get everyone's attention. "You can all pick out and open a gift now! Only one though so that that there's enough to go around!" She grinned cheerfully. With her gifts released she hoped non of the other creatures there would decide to prey upon them.

Terris did not get a chance to choose his present, as Morse, in all his excitement at shiny new things, grabbed an obnoxiously pink package off the table and made an attempt to scratch the wrapping. The knight ran to the doberman puppy, alarmed, as the gift had been violently shaken by the spirit animal's ministration.
"NO! Bad dog!" Terris screeched, taking the present and holding it protectively to his chest.
Amerlan had said the contents would not like being manhandled, and so, with a frantic urgency he tore at the paper, and opened the box....to find.....

Amerlan watched with wide eyes as the Spirit Animal shook the box. The Undassa within certainly wouldn't be happy when they were released from their confinement.
As the lid was removed from their temporary home the Undassa hissed and snapped their little jaws at Terris. The two aggressive ones launched themselves at Terris's face hoping to clamp down on flesh. While the protective one tried to get at Morse, it might be why this man released them so quickly! So it must be bit too! The two supposedly sweet tempered one's stuck to the back corner of he box hissing at the man for treating them in such a manner.

Amon collided with his bonded as she bent to retrieve the pineapple from the last sayder. "Not really on them causing any more issues than the rest of the over one hundred member flock. Sorry, still don't have much ready as a hostess gift. Hope you don't mind a fresh uncut pineapple instead." Arlene picked up the spirit pup who was pretending to be hurt. "You big ham." Arlene picked up the badly wrapped present from the table though she was a little nervous about unwrapping seeing as she didn't normally get gifts not even for the winter solstice.
She winced at bit at the snake attack on Terris. Many religions believed snakes to be sacred to Gaia. She wasn't completely sure on that one but still if similar was in her box she had better get it unwrapped enough they could breathe soon. Face it she was also concerned about confining ANY creature on a hot summer day but that was just her. She carefully undid the wrap. "I hope you all are alright if there's anything alive in this box... though yes it is summer which is snake breeding season where I come from." She gently placed the box on the ground to give whatever was inside half a chance to breathe.

Amerlan accepted the pineapple, "Oh thank you! I'm not used to getting gifts myself as a hostess." She took the Saydar chicks over to the fruit table so they could have a few morsels and set the pineapple in a safe place where it wouldn't be eaten by any of the creatures there.
As the elastic was removed from the present and it set on the ground the Undassa slithered out calmly and headed straight for Arelene. Crawling up her pant leg with ease they slithered all the way up until they came to rest on her arms and simply look at her, waiting for something. Perhaps food?
The agressive, winged Undassa couldn't have been bothered waiting for Arlene to take them to the food and flew over there itself. Finding a slice of melon it happily chowed down.

Terris backed up as the snakes launched themselves at him, though, what good that would do, as he was still holding the box, was anybody's guess. The doberman puppy, thinking the safest place in the world would be behind the knight, made a perfect stumbling block, and Terris fell backwards, falling flat on his back, a tiny vine snake dangling from his nostril, a ground-element dangling from his earlobe like an ornate earring.
His eyes grew wide as the venom hit his system, and he was unware of everything else, didn't even feel his foot catching one of the other presents, a sparkling blue one, which flew in a wide arc through the air, its path obviously headed toward Amerlan.
Morse yelped as the little wind serpent tried to attach itself to his ear, though, being non-corporeal once more, it missed him entirely, and, angry at this development, started flying around his head, lashing out at at the spirit animal in a flurry of serpentine fury....

*You're very welcome!* Taki was thrilled her gift had been accepted, and she smiled big enough to scrunch closed her eyes. Then she laughed, hearing the announcement that they could choose and open a gift.
Before Taki could take two steps, Tam'kar had plucked up the small golden package that had caught her attention before and carried it over to his Bonded, carefully setting it down at her feet and looking expectantly at her with quad-tails flickering. With her other Bondeds gathering around, Taki knelt and carefully undid the glittering package, wanting to save the wrapping and ribbon for later.

Duzell lept away from the table with the presents as the snakes came flying out at Terris. He tried to get a better look at how to help get the snakes off of Terris without getting bit himself. Unfortunately as his attention was no focused on Terris he no longer had an eye on the presents or his mischievous spirit animal.
Orryx was not good with the term “wait”. He floated above the presents for almost a full minute before he was back at the sparkly bag. Misty glared at him. You aren’t supposed to be playing with those. Besides, we are getting this one. She patted the silver box which she had pulled close to her.
Orryx sighed. Fine, we’ll keep that one I was just looking. As Misty glanced over towards the commotion Orryx seized the opportunity to dive into the bag. He was certainly not prepared for what was inside however.
