Before time began, and the universe as we knew it existed, there was Ildir, an immortal being of great power. Ildir was alone in time and space, and was desperately lonely, so, he/she went about breathing life into the universe.
He/she willed the stars and planets of this realm into existence, created the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, and all manner of things that crawled and walked on land, but still he/she was not happy. There were none like him/her with which to share what he/she had made.
Ildir decided that they would make other beings in their image, and willed four more gods into life. The only thing Ildir did not realise was it was impossible to make anything in one's own image without them being flawed in some way, and the four gods that were created were no different.
Rather than being the perfectly balanced being that Ildir was, the two sets of twins each took on a specific aspect, and each twin was the polar opposite of the other.
Lok became obsessed with purity and goodness, while his twin brother, Doq became obsessed with impurity and darkness, hence the gods of good and evil were formed, constantly warring with each other for dominion over the hearts and minds of sentient beings.
The twin sisters Daia and Reud did not fare any better in this respect. Daia was fixated on order and keeping things calm, while Reud revelled in chaos and disorder. When one set a plan in motion, the other would do everything in her power to foil those plans, eventually they, too began to try to sway sentient beings to their will, with some success.
Ildir was at a loss as to what to do. Unable to unmake what was already made, the neutral god tries to keep a balance in the worlds and has therefore become known as the god of neutrality.
