As the last rays of daylight shifted behind the black dunes of Ebon Drifts, shrouding the Nexus in darkness, a robed figure moved swiftly and silently into the area. Any that were alerted to the figure's presence would shrug it off as nothing more than a shadow on the wall, would turn over, and drift back into a peaceful slumber.
The figure would not stay long, but he would leave some evidence that she had been there, as, next to each sleeping human (or humanoid, as the case may be) an egg would be found. Each a different size and colour. What was contained within was a mystery...one that the humans would likely try to solve...but really, only time would tell what secrets the eggs would reveal.
(ooc: I'll bet you are all dying to know what is inside the eggies! bwahahahahah)

Amerlan shifted and stretched. When had she fallen asleep? Seroth had taken her and their Saydar chicks to the warm sands to spend the night. They had no home yet and the Nexus would provide a safe, warm place to rest. Even though Seroth had assured her the Nexus was perfectly safe Amerlan wouldn't rest until guard shifts had been decided on. Seroth had had the first shift and had woken her up a few short hours after she had first drifted off to sleep. She had tried to stay awake, she really had, but the stress of the last few days had gotten to her, and like a beginner watchman she had drifted off not long after she started.
To be frank she was a little bit shameful that she had tripped up on the job. She had been the one to argue for watches after all.
Seroth flicked the back of her head with his tail. "And you should feel shameful, though not because something could have eaten us. What could eat a Dragon after all."
Rubbing the back of her abused head she scowled at Seroth. "Yeah, yeah. Don't remind me." Looking around she noticed something was distinctly missing. "Seroth? Where are the babies?"
Turning himself around more agile than a dragon should have been capable of Seroth scoured the sands around them. To his utter distress no baby Saydar chicks where in sight. Taking to the air he whirled around the surrounding area trying to pin point the little ones.
Amerlan chuckled at Seroth's antics. Those little ones were his babies, though he never actually did anything to help raise them, he loved them to bits. He he not taken off so fast and used his ears he might have heard the little peeps coming from near by.
Dusting off the sand Seroth had flung onto her from his hasty departure Amerlan rose and walked towards where the sounds were coming from. To her great humor all six little chicks were huddled around an egg larger than them. Toast and Olive were pecking furiously at the egg, while the others seemed content in just napping pressed up against it.
"Seroth the babies are just fine, they'r right down here. Turn a little to your right and you should see us." Amerlan beckoned the Dragon down. She would never have heard the end of it if she let him keep on searching.
Swiftly the Dragon turned and banked for them. Landing light as a feather he immediately scooped the babies up and held them close, crooning at them about being bad and never worrying daddy again.
Sighing, Amerlan left the Dragon and chicks to examine the strange egg. It looked nothing like any egg she had ever seen before. The primary color was a deep, brilliant azure, somehow both as bright as the sky and deep as the ocean at the same time. Bright gold and orange flickered around the egg in a swirling duel. Neither color seemed to be able to over ride the other, though they both complemented the blue egg expertly.
Laying her hand on the egg she whispered, "Just what are you?"

Terris yawned, one bright blue eye cracking open as he grumbled against the rays of sunlight that had crept into the Nexus. He yawned loudly, stretching, catlike on the sands, feeling the comforting warmth of Akanth's hide through his skin. He ran a hand through his ruffled hair, stood, scratched absently at his bare chest and looked around, the fog of sleep still clinging to him.
"Ugh, why am I so fuzzy this morning? I am usually instantly alert as soon as I wake up" he muttered to nobody in particular. A seed of worry crept low into his stomach. If his head was so foggy, perhaps something had happened to him. It would not be the first time. What had he done last night anyhow? There was no tavern in the area, actually there was nothing in the area that he could have gotten into, so it was clearly not a big night out of funneling alcohol down his throat that had caused his lapse in memory.
He was about to ask the dragon what had happened when Akanth spoke, his voice reverberating around his head.
We need to get you some new clothes or you will be frozen by winter. The dragon said, eyeing his bondmate with a yawn.
Terris waved his concerns away for now, he could always make clothes out of the local wildlife, once he figured out which ones were sentient and which were not. He hardly thought it ethical to slaughter anything intelligent just to wear it as a coat.
His train of thought was lost when Whisper came padding quietly over to him, his blue eyes locking with Terris' before he spoke in his quiet, oddly lilting mindvoice. There is something....unusual by your pack he inclined his head toward the area where the knight had left his belongings, and without further word moved toward it. Terris followed. In a day that was unusual already, what was one more unusual thing?
He approached, cautious, and, sure enough, a very unusual thing had been left by his pack. A giant egg, roughly the size of a man's torso sat placidly amongst his belongings, leaning up against his breastplate.
"Of all the..." he moved closer, allowing his hand to rest on the smooth black surface of the egg, which seemed to respond to his touch. The shell, which was smooth and shiny black as polished obsidian began to change colour, flecks of purple, blue and yellow swirling and flitting through the black. His palm grew warm, and he could feel what was unmistakably a heartbeat within the confines.
"Oh...wow!' he said, amazed and enthralled, before sitting beside it and pressing his ear up against the shell.
I think it likes you. It seems to react happily whenever you touch it! Whisper said, moving forward to rest a paw on the egg himself.
All at once the swirling colours turned a bright red, and the cub yowled and hissed. He resembled a large ball of fuzz and spines as he backed away, ears flattened flat to his skull.
"I er...think maybe I should be the only one to touch it from now on." the knight said, apologetically.

No alarm sounded in the back of Cain's mind as he watched the figure approach from afar. Nothing that hinted the guy had anything dangerous planned. Still. A shadowy figure sneaking around in the dead of night. Suspicious didn't even begin to cover what Cain was feeling at the moment. Keeping his eyes trained on the figure, he blinked and it was daylight. Scrambling up quickly, he looked around. "Bloody hell. What just happened?" He didn't like the type of magic that was just played on him. In his line of work, anything that could get past his guard was a hazard. Well, his old line of work anyway.
Shaking his head slowly, he made to go back to Dorth, Able and the chicks. Looking down at his legs to see if maybe Garland had found him in the middle of the night to take a chew, he noticed something in the sand. In fact, if he hadn't looked down, he probably would have missed the egg barely the size of one of his eye sockets. Picking it up, he experimentally placed it there and laughed as it rolled back into his skull. Quickly catching it before any harm could come to it, he gave it a closer examination.
It was almost perfectly round. Setting it in his palm, it didn't move an inch. Almost like something was weighing it down on one side. Interesting. The color was interesting as well. Almost like a pale yellow but at the same time it had a sheen on it that reflected all the colors of the rainbow and then some. Shaking his head to clear it, he slowly curled his fingers around the egg and headed back. He could worry about it later or maybe give it to Dorth for her to study. He really didn't need it and didn't even know what to use it for. Not like he could put it in his pocket (if he went back to wearing pants) cause it would just make them fall down. "Guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it."

Post by Duzell on Jun 19, 2014 23:49:08 GMT -8
Duzell woke up in a fog. He had never been one for mornings and sleeping on the ground was certainly not agreeing with him. Slowly he sat up and stretched then moved to check on all the others. The seven little Saydars, even the two that were supposedly Duzell's, had decided the best place to sleep was curled up on Nysath for warmth. The chicks were snoozing peacefully so Duzell saw no reason to wake them, or their grumpy daddy, before he had something for them to eat. He would need some food for Saint as well. The cub was sleeping soundly now, but as soon as he was awake he would be wanting food. Duzell was so relieved that Saint had finally started putting on some weight, even if it did mean Duzell had to spend more time finding food for him than usual. After a quick check that cub was in fact sleeping soundly and not off causing mischief, Duzell turned to go get some food out of his pack, took a step, and fell flat on his face.
Picking himself up and dusting off, Duzell turned to see what had caused him to trip. It was an egg, or at least Duzell though it was an egg. It was pure white, completely desolate of any markings as far as Duzell could tell. It was about two feet tall and was perfectly round. Kneeling down, Duzell placed his hand on the egg’s surface. It was cold, not just room temperature cold; touching the egg felt like placing his hand on ice. Duzell tried to pick it up to get a better look at it but the egg was far heavier than he had expected it to be. Duzell could not even move it, much less pick it up.
Duzell crept over to Nysath and tapped him gently to wake him up. The plan had been to wake the dragon without disturbing the flock of Saydars that were sleeping on him. Unfortunately as soon as Nysath stirred all seven of the little Saydars hopped up and started squawking for food. Nysath sighed. You had better feed them before they feed me. Duzell dashed over to his pack, careful not to trip over the egg this time, and grabbed some fruit. He placed it close enough to the chicks to tempt them away, but far enough away from Nysath that they would not bother him. “Nysath, don’t go back to sleep! I need you.” Hogwash, whatever it is, it can wait until morning. “It is morning you lazy lizard. Now get up and take a look at this.”
Nysath opened one eye and moved his head to stare at Duzell. What? Duzell turned and pointed at the egg. Great. What sad creature have you found this time? Duzell shook his head. “It was here when I woke up. What do you think it is? More importantly, how did it get here?” Nysath studied the egg. Those are both excellent questions.

Blinking his sleepy eyes awake, Rezi lazily blinks as the sunlight hurts his eyes. He's on a lower tire of warm sandy, rocky self than the other riders, closer to the ground so he can easily navigate around the area. And well find his way around. Moving his hide sleeping bag of him, making it fall quickly to the warm sands, he yawns, stretching himself before turning his head, catching sight of an unknown object.
Looking down at the egg before him, settled next to were he just slept, he stared at it in awe, at the colors it displayed on its shell.
The egg stands at a medium size of half a meter tall, with a base color of light rosy orange. What surprises him though is the patterns that decorated the egg. Midnight blue lighting markings scatter across the shell of the egg, making the delicate object appear to have been fractured by dark blue water. The faint light red dots branching out from the lighting, the markings blending into the orange base color, made no help in suggesting what the creature was inside.
He picks up his light brown, hide sleeping bag and drapes it carefully over the mysterious egg. Hoping to conceal the warmth for the egg's benefit.

Lost in a dream, Leyora was rolling in the warm sanding of the nexus and mumbling something about 'keeping him'. A damp nose to the chin, followed by a trail of teeth and gums pressing its way up her jawline and ending with soft fur tickling her nose and left eye, woke her with a giggle. "Of course you can keep me as long as I can keep you, too." Rasmus's voice was almost a purr in her mind and it left her smiling, feeling complete. "I wouldn't have it any other way." she grinned and tussled her fingers through his fur to knock some of the sand out. "In my own world I was allergic to cats, or at least something in their fur. That doesn't seem to be the case with you, though." "I'm glad for that. We have more important matters at hand, though. I'm certain I heard someone move past us in the night. Someone not from our Nexus Nest." The term had become somewhat of an inside joke between her and her bondeds and was born of watching the others try to settle in for sleep with so many saydar chicks swarming them. Leyora tensed a little at the cubs thought, though. Her first notion was that it might have been a robber, but she dismissed that as this was not her world and as far as she knew only the few humanoids that slept in the sands now existed in this world. She skimmed the general vicinity, but saw nothing out of place.
"Nothing seems to be amiss, but let's check on the others, just in case." Rasmus nodded, stretched mightily and proceeded to do his favorite morning ritual. He walked up Eyrdith's tail and made a great show of inspecting the dragon's skin for flaking or cracks. This, of course, always woke Eyrdith up and she always pretended to be thoroughly irritated with the cub's antics, but secretly, between her and Leyora, she loved the feel and how the Eld'rani seemed to know right where to step to work loose a knotted muscle. Eyrdith rumbled quietly as she woke and lifted her head, turning her short, slender neck so that she could look at the cub. "If you must insist on this every morning, could you at least scratch my right wing joint?" Rasmus growled playfully and complied happily enough.
"Oh you two...." Leyora's voice held notes of exasperation and amusement. She had taken a moment to shake sand from her hair and brush it out of her dress and now she was looking for Ayman and Tavor. She was more than a little surprised to see saydar and pload sleeping together in a small bowl that looked as if the pload has wallowed out for a nest. there was a strange, muffled sound coming from the unlikely pair. "Anyone else thing something weird is going on here?" "Yes." Leyora clamped her eyes shut and shook her head. "Urgh! Don't do that again." Two voices in her head speaking firmly in unison felt much like having a gong struck somewhere between here ears and did not mix well at all with the pretty tinkling musical sound which was still unaccounted for.
Rasmus prowled his way up Eyrdith's neck, resting on her head as both creatures watched Leyora approach the small sand bowl. Dropping to her knees, she was careful not to disturb Tavor too much. Ayman however, seemed to be the source of the music so she woke him up gently by touching his right wing. He was very touchy about letting anyone near his blind side, so unless he offered it freely, messing with his left side was a good way to get bit. Once awake, even the saydar seemed surprised to find that he was sitting on something so noisy. Ayman peeped in distress, stood up and backed away, revealing an egg of most unusual colorings. The egg was relatively small, being slightly bigger than the palm of Leyora's hand and was marbled equally in black and blues ranging from a dark periwinkle to shades of cornflower. Thin streaks of metallic coloring, almost like authentic polished silver, branched out in patterns that resembled lightening over the surface of the egg. When Leyora picked it up, the high pitched tickling tune changed to a pleasantly hummed melody and the volume faded to tones that were easier on the ears.
"Oh heavens! What have I gotten myself into this time?" All of Leyora's companions seemed to give her an indignant look for that comment, before all returned to focusing on the new egg and what to do with it.

Normally, Xel'zhan was the lightest sleeper anywhere. The slightest noise or shift or even breath would snap him awake in an instant. Too long a Planar wanderer, he, to enjoy the deep sleep of the safe and relaxed.
And then sometimes outside forces acted upon him, apparently, because he hauled himself awake, groggy and unfocused, just to find...an egg. No clue what kind of egg. No reason for it to be there. It was just an egg, and his tail seemed to have curled protectively around it without any input from Xel's brain.
And Civeth? The bastard dragon was laughing in his sleep. No help from that corner.
Well, it was an egg.
Xel, unsure of why, exactly, the egg was there or what, exactly, he was supposed to do with it, curled around it to impart what warmth he could from his demon-blooded body. Which was rather a lot, actually, because tieflings ran hot.
What was in the egg? He supposed he'd find out soon enough.

At the harsh light of dawn, Arlene stirred on her branch stretching and looking down at the ground. She frowned at the feeling of a solid lump at her back by the vine tying her to the trunk in case of nightmare. She pulled out a turquoise marbled egg about 2 hand spans wide. She turned it letting the varying shades catch the dawn sunlight curious. "Wonder how this got here. Not like there was a nest here when I went to sleep."
She looked down roping the vines around the egg to lower it down gently trying to figure out how to incubate it for the duration. She would deal with it after she'd harvested enough breakfast to know what she could ask for help figuring out on the care of the egg.
She sneezed a bit as the pollen hit her nose on her way down stirred by her shoes on the way down before she settled the egg down so she could tend to her hayfever. Nature always wanted a balance and this was part of the balance for her own power. Certain pollens irritated her nose. Iron would be poison in any open wounds. Though everyone would think it the height of irony, a plant mage allergic to certain pollen like any normal human?

Taki peered in awe at the cavern she had come to in the early morning. It was incredibly huge, much larger than the Myrgawe’s mind could fathom, and was also the first landmark or structure or anything she’d encountered in this new realm. That in and of itself was a little surprising, as she was used to seeing national banners or crests on signs nearly everywhere she went, and that was clearly not the case here.
The caverns was deep and dark too, and she thought she could hear faint voices and noises from within, but from where she stood she couldn’t see anyone. The thought of finding others was a cheerful one, so she merrily entered, moving in near silence until she reached what had to be the main part of it. And her eyes popped so wide they looked as if they would spring from her head!
{Ooooh wow! I think you could fit the biggest lake I know of in there!} she thought in awe. And there were others about, each keeping to their own from what she could tell with a variety of creatures with them. For a few moments, Taki could only stare in delight, watching them all as they interacted. It seemed there was something exciting happening, but she couldn’t be especially sure of what. Just a lot of activity, and it seemed to have to do with some eggs? Her eyes darted this way and that, trying to take everything in from the wondrous creatures, then over to where some young-looking ones were playing (at first she’d wondered if they were fighting until she realized they weren’t actually hurting each other),
Just then, there was a leathery rustling from up high above her. Taki looked up, but found it made her oddly dizzy and she had to sit down, taking a moment to shake her head before she looked up again. If her eyes had widened before, they tripled in size now. Dragons! There were dragons! At first she had to wonder if they were fake dragons, just illusions or something designed to frighten people away who shouldn’t be here. But no, as she watched one fly down to one of the people in the middle, she realized these were real! Quickly she darted behind some rocks, ducking down and hiding from sight so that she could watch them unobserved and thrilled beyond measure to be so close to them. Now for most people the sensation, the knowledge that there were dragons around, especially above them, might have made them paranoid, but that was one word that was barely known to Myrgwae-kind, Taki included. Her tail twitched in wonder and amazement, as the thought began to creep in of did she want to approach anyone. Normally quite social, as all of her kind were, Taki also didn’t want to intrude on any of them if they were in the middle of something. After a few minutes debate, she decided to let the excitement settle down, then go and say hi. Until then, she would explore!
Creeping along the edge of the bowl of warm sand, she watched various people and their creatures, listened to small snatches of conversation, and generally came to the understanding that these eggs had mysterious appeared during the night, with no one knowing how they’d come to be or why they were there. They were brilliantly colored, azure and scarlet, amethyst and golden, emerald and all manner of natural hues. Her eyes were positively dazzled by them.
{What is inside? Is it some exotic bird? Maybe one of those dragons put them there, and it’s their young. Oh! Or maybe it’s a horse! But… horses don’t come from eggs. But then again, I’m not home, and maybe here they do! Ah! A horse with wings like a bird! That would come from an egg!}
She was so caught up in her imaginings that she almost tripped over something rounded in front of her, stumbling and only just managing to catch herself on the wall. Looking down, she saw that what she’d tripped over was another egg. It was a shimmering black onyx like the deepest, darkest part of the night, with very faint white and red sparkles that she only could just make out after she picked it up to make sure she hadn’t hurt it. It felt warm to the touch, and was a bit heavy.
{Phew, it’s okay!} Taki smiled at that, looking at the egg. *What were you doing here all alone, little egg? You should be in there, on the warm sand with everyone else!* Of course, the egg didn’t answer her. She looked around, wondering where its owner – or parent – was. No one she saw seemed to be looking for something, or were casting wary eyes her direction as if they had hidden it there. *Are – are you all alone?* Looking at the egg filling her hands, she felt a wash of sadness for the egg and whatever was inside of it. It must’ve been dropped here, to the side and forgotten. Given that she had found it in the shadows, its dark colorations would have camouflaged it well against being seen, and likely would’ve meant that it would have remained alone forever. *Well, you’re not alone now!* she declared firmly, tracing an outline of a heart on its shell. *You’re with Taki now! I’ll take good care of you.* She nuzzled it lovingly, then set it down for a moment to rummage through her pockets and hat for something to help her carry it. {Pieces of string, no… dried berries…} Those were quickly eaten as a snack. {Chalk… pretty rock… another pretty rock… another pretty rock… ah!} She pulled out a long, lovely scarf a kind woman had given to her some time back. It was far too big for the Myrgwae to wear normally, as it would go around her about seven or eight times, but it would serve her well here. She doubled it up, expanded it as wide as it would go, put the egg within and folded the edges around it, secured it with the string she’d found earlier, and then tied the entire thing around her torso like a sling. *Perfect!* Wrapping her arms around to cradle it close, she found a warm patch of sunlight to sit in and see if it would hatch sometime soon.

As people woke and became aware of the eggs, a faint buzzing began, low at first, but rising steadily, in both pitch and volume, until the noise was so loud and ear-shattering that people had to cover their ears to block it out (not that it did much good). The dragons all through the nexus keened in pain, then, just as the inhabitants thought the sound might burst their eardrums, it stopped suddenly.
Any that were game to take their hands off their ears and look around would notice their eggs had been shattered by the sound, and in the remnants of the shells, non-coporeal vapours floated in various colours. Any who had been at the temple when the eld'rani had been turned into a spirit animal would recognise the vapours for what they were, others...probably not so much, but either way, they would know all about it soon enough, as the vapours were beginning to take familiar shapes.
Amerlan's Azure Egg - Firey Orange and gold vapour
Terris' Black Egg - Purple vapour
Cain's Yellow Egg - Prismatic Vapour
Duzell's White Egg - Frosty White Vapour
Rezi's Orange Egg - Dark Blue Vapour
Leyora's Black and Blue Egg - Silver Vapour
Xel'zhan's Egg - Blue and Orange Firey Vapour
Arlene's Turqouse Egg - Turquoise Vapour
Taki's Onyx Egg - Red and White Swirling Vapour
(it is up to you what form your spirit animals take - but they will be those colours, have fun!)

Terris thought he was going to die as the buzzing sound reached its peak, he could feel the vibrations in every part of his body, gushing through him like a river. He wanted to scream, to cry out against the pain, but he was stuck, unable to move with the agony, and then, all at once it was gone. The absence of pain after such an overload was heavenly and he sighed his relief, then sat, breathing heavily as the world righted itself.
His vision cleared slowly and before him, scattered amongst the shards of the ruined egg, a purple mist hung, suspended in the air. He edged closer to it, fascinated, could see Whisper, the eld'rani cub doing the same, a look of kittenish fascination in his eyes.
"Careful now, you know what happened when you touched the egg, we don't want you zapped again do we?" the knight said gently. The cat stopped where he was, content now, just to look and not touch...not that one could touch vapour anyhow.
The vapour began to take form, four legs were faintly visible, then not, the proud head, a gently sloping back, appeared, disappeared, then reappeared, slowly, like oil on water, and then, all at once the vapour was gone and in its place a being of pure purple light, faint, but clearly visible and glowing in the dim confines of the nexus.
The figure was distinctly canine, though not at all what he had expected when it was taking shape. Gone was the large, graceful animal with the sloped back, dainty feet and regal bearing, in its place a gangly pup, all coltish legs, giant paws and two too-large ears that flopped comically downward. An angular head, that might one day have that regal bearing he thought he saw, and a neck, too long for the skinny, akward body.
"A puppy?" he asked nobody in particular, and jumped in surprise when the creature barked at him, the tiny stub of a tail wagging gleefully....along with the rest of his rear end. Terris leaned down, clapped his hands, and the pup barked again....and then, their eyes met.
The bond was not the gentle, tentative feather that Amerlan had felt when she had bonded to the Eld'rani spirit animal in the temple, oh no, there was no gentleness about this bond. It was fierce, dominant and all-encompassing, the intensity startled him and he almost fought against it, but resisting would have been futile, for the instant their eyes had met, they were bonded, wholly and irrevocably.
"Well then" he said as his heartrate subsided and he came into himself again. "I guess a welcome to the family is in order, Morse"
The spirit puppy regarded him silently for a moment, as if taking stock of the situation himself, stood on those coltish legs, and tromped over to sit beside him, his features were not yet regal, but the way he sat was as regal and proud as any king. He would grow into his presence in time, that was certain.
I guess you will have to do the pup said, his tone playful, and the knight knew at once the two of them would get along famously.

Taki had barely been sitting in the warm sun for ten minutes when the humming began. At first she twitched her ears, trying to determine where it came from and what it was, when she felt a faint resonant vibration from her egg. Eyes widening in alarm, even as the volume increased, she frantically undid the sling and laid the egg out, panicked that she’d somehow hurt the egg.
*Oh no oh no be okay!* Her frantic pleadings were unacknowledged, as the sound became so piercing she was forced to slap her hands over her ears, fighting back a painful yowl of her own to blend with the keening dragons overhead.
When the noise abruptly ceased, she opened her eyes to see a red and white mist where her egg had sat. Feeling her kind heart nearly stop, her eyes welled with tears as she thought that for certain she’d done something to cause the demise of the egg. Then as she watched, the mist swirled and whirled on the air, and a soft laugh without sound came to her ears, dashing away her tears as easily as if someone had touched her cheeks. It spun about her in some kind of fantastical tornado, and as she watched the spinning, glimmering colors she saw an image form in her mind, for surely her eyes saw nothing but the dazzling display; a creature running in the wind with long slender legs, nine bushy tails flickering playfully with ruby orbs dancing in their midst, pointed muzzle parted in a grin, eyes glimmering with mischief yet wisdom, and ears pricked brightly. It’s entire coat shimmered like the most pure white snow, glistening with such beauty Taki couldn’t describe it, each ankle was banded with red fur like a ruby bracelet, and around its neck was a silver chain holding a ruby pendant. A powerful voice echoed through her entire being as she saw this: Protection at need, companionship when you feel alone, wisdom to temper your impulse, love eternal. I am Tam’kar! Then the vapor regrouped in front of her as the image faded, condensing down as it spun until the mist wisped away, leaving much to her shock a creature sitting on her scarf.
It was only about a foot from the tip of its pointed muzzle to the tip of its three tails, the same pure snow white color with the ruby ‘cuffs’ on its legs, wearing a slender chain with a ruby pendant… a fox kit? It was so alike in form to the image she saw that she knew they were one and the same, only this one was… smaller? What was the vision then? A glimpse of the future, as bards often related in their fictional tales? The creature stood and gave itself a shake, knocking loose a few lingering glimmering motes of dust from its pelt, then looked up at Taki and opened its eyes. Taki was transfixed! They were as gold as the sun, and seemed to be staring right through her, seeing down to the core of what made Taki, Taki. A sensation rippled through the Myrgwae, making her feel as light as air all over, then tingling enough to tickle and make her laugh, finally ending in a warmth around her heart that somewhat stunned the normally unflappable fae. She’d always had a natural knack for her empathic abilities, so she had never felt the urge to find a companion to stabilize her, as some of her kind were rumored to do. Was this what they felt when they made the connection to another person, that highly honored thing her world called Linking?
Taki blinked. The kit blinked. Taki blinked again. Then the kit abruptly jumped onto Taki, knocking her utterly over onto her back and standing on her chest to stare down nose to nose with her. But as Taki looked up at it, she someone knew he (yes, a he) wasn’t trying to show he was dominant over her, but rather was just so overjoyed to see her that he had no other way to express it.
You’re my friend! came the voice in her mind, light and playful with a touch of possessiveness, as the kit started to lick on Taki’s face, making her giggle and put her hands on the kit’s shoulders to gently try to lift him up. He relented, but only enough so that his forepaws dangled over her chest, arcing his head down to look at her brightly, tails flickering up and down in different intervals.
*Hehe, wow, I’ve never met anyone like you before, Tam’kar!* Taki smiled brightly, not questioning how she came into contact with this wonderful multi-tailed fox, only very glad she had.
You’re my friend now, Tam’kar reiterated, and I’m yours, and we’ll never be separated! Tam’kar squirmed free of her grip to nuzzle against her neck and face affectionately, as Taki just put her arms around her new companion in this new world.

Leaning in close to the egg she pressed her ear to it to see if she could hear anything within. A couple heart beats past, but she could make out no discernible sounds. Either the egg was very young, or whatever had been inside it was dead, or perhaps it was just staying still. She hoped it was either the former or latter, there had been enough dead babies as of late. Even Seroth, who usually fawned like a proud daddy over every little baby, had been a bit surly lately. Though you wouldn't know it now, his crooning over the Saydar chicks had flushed out all other emotions coming off of the Dragon.
The egg than began to hum, at first it was tolerable, but soon the noise became unbearably loud. The ubiquitous noise rang out across the Nexus. Throwing her hands over her ears she stumbled backwards. Never taking her eyes off of the egg she watched as cracks began to form all over the surface until finally the egg simply exploded. With the shattering of the egg the noise had ceased.
Slowly taking her hands off of her ears she stared wide-eyed at what the egg had left behind. While most of the egg was gone the bottom one-fourth still held its shape. Floating above that remnant of the egg a fiery wisp moved cautiously about. It seemed to swirl and turn in on itself in an intricate dance.
Like a moth drawn to a hearth Amerlan approached the wisp. Crouching she reached out to touch it, but at the last moment retracted her hand. What if it hurt her? The wisp seemed more frantic now, dancing faster than before. This time she was sure it wanted her to touch it. Tentatively she took her pointer finger and just barely poked the wisp.
A fire like no other rolled over her. Hot and fast. This was no calming blaze, it stung and left her raw. Slowly the invisible flames retracted from her being and at the same time seemed to transfer to the wisp. As every ebb left her the wisp seemed to slowly take form.
When the fire was completely extinguished she cautiously crawled over to the egg remnant. Peering into the shell she found a very small, very fluffy looking creature. It was gold and fiery orange, the two colors swirling and flickering over it. Soon even that settled down, until each feather looked like its own tiny flame. The thing had gone from a fluffy fireball to the very discernible shape of an owl chick.
She soon found that just like Ekho she could not touch this creature very well. It obviously had a shape and that shape took up space, but in trying to touch it only resulted in a feather light feeling.
"You're a Spirit Animal aren't you? I've only met one other before, not like I've been in this place awhile, but wow. Aren't you stunning." Placing her hand into the bottom of the shell she held her hand flat and the chick hopped on.
The voice that rang in her head did not sound child-like at all. If she hadn't known better she would have thought she was talking to a full grown woman. "Well I'm glad you think so. Choosing isn't always easy, but you'll do. Yes, you will do nicely." Some how her tiny wings were already capable of flight. Flapping them effortlessly she landed on Amerlan's shoulder. "You may call me Artemis. In time I will grow much larger, but the bond is weak. How strong it gets will determine how big and fast I grow." This seemed to be a dismissal as Artemis was now set to work on preening.
Seroth took just enough time from his babies to check out what had become of the egg. "Oh another one. You must have made the Gods happy about something." Shrugging it off he went back to playing with his precious babies.
