Amerlan paced back and forth among the shadows of the trees. Her palms were sweaty and she couldn't help but wring her wrists. She had to steady herself, it would do no good to allow Seroth to feel her apprehension through the bond. If he found out where she was or what she was doing he would be furious beyond the point of just simply flaming her and the thing she came to seek. For all the gentleness the Dragon possessed she knew ignoring his command on this matter would spell doom for them all if he would out before she had accomplished her task.
Steadying her breathing she leaned up against a tree for comfort. The rough bark against the skin on her arms reminded her of her old home. A world filled with trees greater than anything this place could possible have.
Sticking her hand in her pocket she felt around for the objects she had been instructed to bring. Each one rolled smoothly over her hand. She counted them mentally and sighed in relief when she hit five. For the twelfth time each piece was accounted for and just as they had been since the last time she counted.
Where was this person anyhow? It was bad enough she had excepted the offer to trade what she had found for a creature that she had no idea even looked like. It could eat her after all, she had been given no guarantees. Shaking the dreadful thoughts from her head she sent away the seed of doubt that had tried to take root. The trade was a fair one and the person would come just as they had promised.
Time began to tick by and there was still no sign of the stranger. Hell, she couldn't even be sure she would recognize them again. When they had approached her they were garbed in shadow and merely had set a note in her hand before Seroth had flown in and chased them off. In all their short time bonded together she had never seen the Dragon so mad. He spoke of oath breaking, child stealing, and how he couldn't ever leave her alone again.
But the temptation had been too great. When her bonded was sleeping she had unrolled the note the stranger had given her. It asked for a set of objects that she had discovered just hours before, and in exchange it would bring her a creature with great potential. It even detailed out where to meet them if she chose to take up the offer. She had no use for the objects, but a strange creature? That was right up her ally.
She had crept off and arrived not too long before the note had said. Now, however, it was much later, the sun having climbed a quarter of the way across the sky. Still, the stranger was no where in sight.
Just as she was about to give up and go home to face a disturbed Dragon when she heard faint whispers on the wind. Just in the shadowed outline in the reaches of the forest she could make out a figure coming towards her, and it was bringing something.
