Dorth's sudden change in flight seemed to work in his favor. Being in the middle of the group he, even with his immense speed he had been worried about falling behind, but now things had been changed up. Turning and tucking in his wings he dove after the the female. While she had opted to be just feet above the surface he settled on a few meters, if she wasn't quick enough he could almost land on her.
He was going to take the chance when suddenly she dipped out of sight and he overshot the crevice. He knew he had only moments, funneling his unbridled passion into another outlet he furiously studied the crack in the ground. Turing around would take too much time, he may lose Dorth. In a moment of shear stupidity he took the image of the crack and brought it to the forefront of his mind and then he vanished. One. Two. Three. Bursting out from Between he shot right into the crevice. He was behind Nysath, but he could pay no mind to that. Weaving in between pillars that threatened his flight he chased after the female with renewed vigor.
Amerlan didn't even hear a word they had said. She had tried to pay attention, but the blood roaring in her ears had blocked everything else out. Hastily she turned tail and ran from the group. Sure she was in the mood for a good romp but Cassin's culture still stuck to her like glue. You must first court the person you intend to share your body with, and she knew in this state of mind there would be none of that. Not wishing to contaminate one of the more sacred rules of her people she fled across the sands away from the others.

Paying little mind to the caution regarding wet clothing, Leyora nodded. "A quick splash about in cold water would be nice. I'm not as affected as those that seem to be in the chase, but Eyrdith seems insistent that we should part ways if we have no romantic intent beyond uhh.. a good romping." She was still beat red at the notion, but she did manage to laugh as she stood up. "'Tis not that I am inexperienced, so much as it is that I do not fully appreciate Eyrdith's blunt and highly imaginative images streaming through my head like a dam bursting." She couldn't quite stop herself from stuttering a little with embarrassment and laughter as she tried not to let her own active imagination take off in regards to taking care of things alone or with another.
Shaking her head again, still trying to clear it, Leyora huffed and stated, "I still have to give Rasmus a bath, too. The stinky little creature found the driest dung heap he could find and littered his fur." Well that thought certainly put a damper on some of her feelings, anyway. Some part of her was amused at Eyrdith's disgust in the matter, too. She wondered if it helped to kill some of the mood for the others too. Addressing any in earshot, Leyora announced, "You are welcome to join me or tend to your needs as you wish. I doubt I'll be too affected as long as I'm busy washing away Rasmus's filth." At least she hoped it would be virtually impossible to be attracted to much of anything during such a chore. She tried to have an inviting and pleasant tone, but whether it was the effects of the chase or her disgust in the mess she'd be cleaning, she worried that her tone had come out more harshly than intended.
Noting Amerlan's departure, Leyora smiled to Cain and Duzell before turning away to fetch her eld'rani. As she walked away she filled her head with thoughts of what to do after bathing her cat and likely herself and Eyrdith, as well. She debated drawing in the sand and decided against it as she did not really want her thoughts even more openly broadcasted than they seemed to be already. Of course, when she got back she'd have to feed all her furred, feathered and other friends. Maybe a warm veggie soup would be nice after the bath. Yes. That was a pleasant thought, that she could keep in her head; planning how she wished to cook it in advance, so that when this was over, the meal would come together quickly and make for a relaxing evening to a tense, albeit interesting, day.
Eyrdith was kneeling and waiting impatiently to carry any riders that wished to come along. Leyora fetched her basket, Rasmus and a few herbs to make a sweetly scented, if somewhat ineffective soapy paste with, then glanced back to see if anyone was following. She wouldn't intentionally leave anyone behind.

There were no rules during a mating flight. You either got the female or you didn't and it looked like Akanth didn't make it into the crack. Which was a shame really, but three dragons were still left that Dorth noted. A corner turn had offered the perfect chance to gain a look behind her. Seroth and Nysath made it into the crevice with her. Well...If she knew what Seroth had done to make it into the crevice she probably would have tried to attack him and berate him for being a stupid stupid dragon. There were legends about what happened to dragons that didn't between right and to do it over a female? To Dorth, that was like admitting you had very little self preservation. Luckily for the other males, she had not seen the incident and she continued down the crevice. At one point, she didn't dodge soon enough and gashed her wing.
A low hiss escaped her snout but she kept going. Deciding that the crevice was too dangerous, she shot up and out into the brilliant sunshine. Heading for the glimmering water, she decided to take this flight to the shore line. Her wing pained her and she knew she couldn't keep this up for much longer.
Which was probably a good thing for Cain and the other riders back at the Nexus. The lack of beds did not discourage any of them it seemed like as Amerlan rushed off. Scratching the back of his head, Cain attempted to let out a low groan of frustration and other emotions. "Like a dog almost and I do not blame you on the images in the head either. Bad enough to get the residue without anything to help it along." Though Leyora wasn't feeling it as bad as the rest of them it looked like. Which was interesting. Maybe it was only...And Cain let out a yelp and jumped as pain shot through his shoulder. "Damn it. No one plays nice in these things do they?" He didn't quite realize it was a sheet of ice that caused the pain and not one of the other dragons.
Deciding that a cool dip did sound good, if anything to help with the dull pain he now felt in his shoulders and arms. Jogging, he called out to Leyora. "Wait up please! I would like to come with." Stopping short of Eyridith, he looked at the woman. "If that is not too much trouble of course."

Nysath flew a bit more cautiously than he had been as he navigated this deathtrap of a crevice. An injury now would spell the end of his part in the chase and he was not about to give up so easily. He saw as Dorth clipped herself on the ice and shook his head. Even she could not navigate at one hundred percent down here. He was quite relieved when she chose to exit the crevice and return to the open air. Not only did he no longer have to worry about injuring himself on the ice but up there was where his superior speed would be most useful. He shot straight out of the crevice and flew as fast as he could after her. It was nearing that time where he would have to end this, or someone else would take his place. With a cry of determination Nysath redoubled his efforts and shot after her.
Duzell found himself torn between wanting to join Cain and Leyora at the lake and just wanting to lay down semi-nude in the hot sand until the dragons were done with all these brain melting hormones. Although, his last trip to find a nice hiding spot had not gone according to plan and frankly the water did sound lovely. Turning to Cain and Leyora he asked “Do you two mind if I tag along? The water does sound lovely. Although, if you two are wanting some alone time I’d completely understand.” I may have been the hormones talking but for some reason he was getting faint romantic vibes from the two of them, even if Leyora wasn’t as affected as the rest of them. Not that he was entirely certain how that would work with and living skeleton person but who was he to judge?

Seroth dodged and weaved through the ice. The frigid air around him cooled his rushing blood and cleared his addled mind. While his thoughts still lingered on coupling with Dorth he was no longer a mindless beast. Letting loose a guttural roar he chased after the female. Left. Right. Left. Ducking under one hazardous piece he caught a glimpse of the female creating a gash on her wing. The blood left was a vivid shade of red, the only splash of color on the white world around them.
If he hadn't been so preoccupied he might have sighed in relief as the female exited the cavern. Out here in the open air was where he was meant for, not squirreling about in a compact place dodging between shafts of ice. He counted himself lucky for not running into anything as Dorth did. Surely then he would have been knocked out of the running, his earlier mistake had already cost him precious heartbeats.
Roaring once more he sent out a challenge to the female. Fly. Fly as fast as you can because I am coming for you. At this point he had forgotten all about the other competitors. Stroking his wings in powerful downward thrusts he shot like an arrow after the female.
Above him in the air against the sunlight she appeared like a golden goddess, something he knew he just had to have. Banking out of the crevice and towards the water he followed her with open arms and bright red eyes.
Amerlan continued her trek away from the others and eventually fell face first into the warm sands. The sand itched and irritated her face, but she couldn't be bother with giving any thought to the feeling. The feelings of the mating flight were haunting her like a bad nights meal. No matter how she tried to distract herself the feelings continued to swamp and consume her.
How long would it take for them to finish this damn flight. It felt like she had been in a state of constant arousal for days, but whether it had actually been minutes or hours she could not discern. Struggling she tried to push herself back onto her feet, but failed the first time. Panting Amerlan tried again and was successful this time. Swaying on her feet she saw she really hadn't gone very far from the others. Instead of walking in a straight line away from them she had actually gone in a wide oval.
Sitting down on the sands she stared blankly at the others. Stupid Dragons and their stupid mating flight. She sent a pinch through the bond at Seroth to see if she could distract him from the flight, but he was completely cut off from her. A wall of lust separated them.
Plopping herself back down almost exactly where she started when the flight began she was content to sit and stare. The hot sands seemed to sooth places she was incapable of in public. She just hoped the flight ended soon, she didn't know how much longer she could go without going insane.

Eyrdith snaked her head down so she could gaze into Cain's eye sockets and snorted a short burst of air at him. "No trouble, at all as long as we don't start making a habit of it." The dragon tilted her head towards Duzell and huffed, but she settled again so that the riders could get aboard. Leyora, arms too full to wave, nodded to the guys instead. "Aye, Come along then." She smiled to take the edge off of her otherwise terse sounding invite. Being social had never come easy to her and she honestly had no idea what to do with the company, but it seemed rude to her to just up and walk away, leaving them to stew in their dragon's rampart emotions alone, especially if the river might do them good.
She actually felt a little bad for Duzell, whose breath seemed a bit ragged. Leyora was slow to pick up on any hint of romance as, though she had been active in her own world, it was not necessarily something born of love. The life of a servant lass was generally a bleak one, but she had learned well how to survive even if it meant assuming that romance was only for nobles. Eyrdith snorted again, restless and disgusted with the thoughts in her bonded's head. It was driving the dragon to frustration that was almost comparable to the feelings caused by the chase.
Though Leyora was used to doing for herself, she said nothing as the gentlemen helped her to get Rasmus and the bathing supplies up onto Eyrdith's back. Once everyone was settled in place, the actual flight to the river was not long at all. Everyone made short work of dismounted and Rasmus complained about the bath he was about to receive. He escaped once, to mark his territory on every other tree, just trying to waste time. A fish jumping out of the water caught his attention, though and cub that he was, he bounded into the river after it. Laughing, Leyora exchanged a shy grin with Duzell and Cain and then hurried after the eld'rani, with bathing supplies in hand.

Dorth was tiring and once again cursed herself for missing that turn. She could feel it in every wing stroke and heart beat. The gash was taking its toll on her so she switched to a smooth glide to try and help ease the hurt. Letting out a puff of air and ignoring the pain as much as possible, she looked down below her to see how the others were doing and if they even made it out of the deadly, icy maze.
She should not have looked as she saw one of the outlines much closer than she felt comfortable with. The young female could not tell who it was though and that was what bugged her the most. Was it Seroth? Nysath? Akanth doing a sneaky ploy? No way to really find out, but that did not mean she still couldn't at least get out of their range.
Letting out a call that was much akin to a bird of prey, she took another steep dive to attempt to put some distance between herself and her pursers/suitors. The chase was about to come to an end, this Dorth knew and mostly accepted. This did not mean, however, that Dorth was going to make it easy to catch her. She wanted to be sure that every last second was one of freedom for her and a challenger for the suitors. She was not some creature of the night, hiding away in some kind of hole.
No! She was a proud dragon and she would end the chase like one. Pulling up out of the dive, she crackled to herself as she started to climb again. She could do this! She could do this! The stunt she was about to do was dangerous and probably would get her in trouble with her rider, but she could do it! Besides, she had complete faith in the other males to catch her. Otherwise she would never attempt such a stunt.
But now was not the time for it. She still needed more height. Putting more effort into the climb, she ignored her puffing breath as the only thought on her mind was the height between her and the ground.
Cain really wish Dorth wasn't doing this. His shoulder was hurting like hell and warring with all the other emotions going on in his head. Least Rasmus provided a lively diversion from the pounding in his head. Laughing at the sight, Cain moved slowly and stiffly to the water. "Just like normal cats and dogs. If they do not want to have a bath, they ain't getting one. Careful of those spines Leyora!" He did not want to see her scarlet blood leave her body. Even if the wound was minor and small, he did not know what would happen if he saw it in his current state. Best not to find out after all.
The cool water was refreshing as it slowly worked its way up Cain's bones. The brief thought of that the river must be fed by a mountain lake crossed his mind before it was gone in a sea of lust. Great. Now it was starting to bring back memories of when he was human and could still have sex without being paranoid if the person he was currently seeing was into necrophilia.
Sinking his head under, he let out some of his breath and watched the water bubble around him. He wondered when the chase was going to end. He did not know what would happen when it did though. Would he had to have "fake" sex with someone? Did it have to be with the rider of who Dorth chose? Did...Cain jerked in the water and looked toward the shore as he felt his bones heating up from the inside. "What the hell?"
Dorth had finally decided to end this flight. Taking a moment to pause and gather up her strength and courage, she closed her eyes and dived head long towards the ground. She had no intent on stopping this time and hoped one of the males would catch her before she hit the ground. While losing a dragon was not a matter of national security usually, she was pretty sure it would mess Cain up pretty good if she were to break her neck on the hard ice. Despite common belief, snow and ice was not soft when you were going at terminal velocity.
"Dorth!" Cain let out a yell as he realized what she was doing. Mumbling curses under his breath, he splashed towards the shore. As if that would stop her from the crazy stunt she had just pulled. And then. Something happened. His bones felt as if they were on fire yet freezing cold at the same time. Letting out a scream of pain, Cain collapsed on the shore, mostly in the water as he curled into a ball to try to keep the pain caused by the intense pleasure away.
He was not very successful as he let out a small whimper. He had to move away now. He could not be seen like this. His pride was not much, but he did not want to cause Duzell or Leyora any worries. Though that might be a little bit too late for that.
Dorth meanwhile landed. Just not on the hard ground, thank the mother dragon for small miracles. No. She landed in the one dragon who had his arms out for her, as if almost waiting for her to do a stupid stunt like this so he could catch her. This was the dragon that was going to be the father of her eggs. Who she was probably going to rip off the head of if he so much as made a wrong move during the nesting stage. The one who would find out just how stubborn she could be sometimes.
Seroth, hope you can handle her since you were the lucky one enough to catch her. Or unlucky enough depending on the point of view someone took.
Latching onto Seroth, even if he had not meant to catch her, it was too late now. The tumbled landing was much softer (Seroth made both a great parachute and landing pad), but it still sent ice and snow up everywhere. Not to mention a good dragon sized crater in the ground. The lust came to a great crescendo in Dorth and this was the backlash Cain was feeling at the moment. Lucky skeleton there.

Amerlan felt Seroth's excitement well up in her. What was he so excited about? There was no way that female would be choosing him. She loved him dearly and she knew he'd be a good father, but she knew he wasn't the best Dragon around. The others were stronger or faster than him. As a wave of glee washed over her she knew. That damn Dragon had caught his prize.
Seroth immediately drew Dorth into him when she made contact. She trusted him to safeguard her and he he'd be damned if he let her down in any way. Flaring his wings he slowed them down a fraction, but it was not enough. Drawing her even closer, if that was possible, he wrapped his wings around her as a shield as they impacted with the ground.
Gritting his teeth he let loose a small hiss as the ice and snow ground into his hide. Perhaps later he would find several small wounds, but now was not the time to worry over such trivial things, not when he had such a lovely Dragon in his arms. Letting go of everything he happily fell into a land of bliss with the young female.
Amerlan groaned and writhed on the sands. That was it, she would have to kill the stupid beast if she ever got off this ladder from hell. Up and up she went, until finally falling off. She didn't care how happy her Dragon would be to have hatchings that bore his blood. All she cared about was the immense feelings crashing over her. Curling into a ball she zipped herself off from the outside world and waited for it all to end.
When the feelings passed and she could to was lay in the sands and soak up the heat. By the gods she may as well have been laying in a hot springs with thermal jets. Only the slight chuckle of Seroth's voice penetrated the calm.

At first Nysath thought that Dorth was going to try to dive into another crevice. Driving after her he barely had enough time to pull back up when he realized what she was doing. To say that Nysath was disappointed like saying the ocean contained water. Now he remembered why he did not bother with these things. All that time and energy spent for no reward when he could have been doing something useful with his time. No use staying here any longer. Nysath turned and flew off to find someplace to lick his wounds and calm himself.
Duzell felt Nysath’s anger and disappointment ripple across the bond. He watched as Cain went down and shook his head. “I guess that’s over then.” Duzell sat down where he had been standing, directly into the shallow water. He was still channeling Nysath, although at this point all he felt was frustrated and like pouting. He took a deep breath as he turned to Leyora. “Sorry, Nysath’s not handling losing all that well. Big baby.”

Blissfully oblivious to the wild acrobatics of the other's dragons and their emotions, Leyora finally managed to convince Rasmus to sit still for most of his bath. Though in retrospect, she was wishing she had thought to brush him first, while on dry land, to prevent as much of the stink as she had to deal with now. Thankfully the paste she mixed and lathered into his fur helped a lot, despite the cub's complaints about smelling like flowers. Cain's warning about quills could not have been better timed as she looked up to see how her friends were faring. A couple of Cain's quills had been ruffled out of place by the washing and grazed her arm from elbow to wrist. Had Cain not given his warning when he did, the quills might have done far more damage. As was, they had only scratched her lightly, not even breaking the skin. Rasmus mewled an apology and was much more still as she rinsed the paste from his fur, leaving him much cleaner than before.
She offered a sympathetic look to Duzell as he spoke of his dragon losing and being a bit of a spoil sport about it. "Sorry to hear, though that be just as well, as riders go. Still, hell hath no fury like a dragon defeated, I suppose..." Without really thinking about it, she patted Duzell lightly on the shoulder and turned to look for Cain. She had thought she heard him call out to his dragon earlier, but he was no where to be seen now. "Over here! Quick! Something is wrong!" Rasmus gave an urgent mewling whine.
Exchanging a worried glance with Duzell, she turned and splashed through the river over to where Rasmus was. The cub was standing over the buckled unmistakable form of Cain. At least she hoped he was unmistakable, as she doubted most bones would have such a pleasantly polished gleam to them. Her first thought was panic that he might drown balled up like that, but as she knelt beside him, she realized no lungs meant that was highly unlikely.
Reaching down, she made careful work of picking him up and carrying him the rest of the way to the shore. In setting him down, she tried to see if he would be able to sit up on his own. "Are you alright? What happened?" She couldn't imagine what a dragon's bliss might feel like to a human, much less to a spirit that was animating a well preserved skeleton. Her best guess was that he maybe felt a static charge like one sometimes felt during nasty thunder and lightening storms because being in water and feeling like that would probably hurt a lot. For lack of any better ideas, she just sat there quietly, holding the skeleton and reflecting worriedly on what she would do when the inevitable happened and her dragon would rise. "You will have warning before I take my flight. I promise, you will know and it will feel nothing like the pain he seems to be in." Leyora wasn't so confident in such reassurances and decided it best not to dwell anymore on it.
