Firelizards
Colours
Wild Colour = Brown B/B or B/b Brown is a MASKING GENE (similar to grey in horses, though it manifests at birth) - if a copy of the gene is present, the firelizard will be brown.
Green = G/G or G/g Dominant over red. One copy of this gene will make non-brown firelizard GREEN.
Red = g/g Recessive to green. If two red genes are present on a non-brown firelizard, that firelizard will be red.
Dilution: d/d The dilution gene is a recessive gene that makes Green firelizards blue and Red firelizards yellow. Two copies of the genes are needed in order for this to occur.
Metallic: m/m B/B or m/m B/b Recessive sex-linked gene. If two genes are present on a firelizard (even brown), it will be either a gold (female), or bronze (male).
Tarnished Gold/bronze: If a metallic firelizard would otherwise be green, it will be a Tarnished Gold (female) or a Tarnished Bronze (male)
Tarnished genetics:
G/g m/m or G/G m/m
If the firelizard would otherwise be red, it will be a Rose Gold (female) or Copper (male)
Rose Gold/Copper genetics:
g/g m/m
If the firelizard would otherwise be blue, it will be a Silver (female) or Chrome (male) G/g m/m d/d or G/G m/m d/d
If the firelizard would otherwise be yellow, it will be a Rose Gold (female) or Copper (male) g/g m/m d/d
Melanistic/Abundant = P/P, P/p The presence of this gene, which is a random mutation (but can pass on to offspring) causes more pigment to be produced. A firelizard with two copies of the melanistic gene will be pure black, a firelizard with one, will have a series of black spots or markings.
Albino/Leucistic = A/A or A/a
The presence of this gene, which is a random mutation (but can pass on to offspring) causes less pigment to be produced. A firelizard with two copies of the albino gene will be pure white, a firelizard with one, will be a very pale shade of its original colour.
Pearl - prl/prl Causes a pearly sheen on firelizard hide
MARKINGS: z/z allows markings to be present.
tg/tg - stripes causes stripes of darker pigment on topside firelizards
mo/mo - mottling causes hide to be mottled
u/u -underbelly causes lighter coloured underbely
po/po -points causes darker points (muzzle, feet, tail) on the firelizard
sp/sp - spots causes spots of darker pigment on the topside of the firelizard
